November 22, 2024

Dear Car Pro Family,

Here we are, Thanksgiving is just a few days away now, but we’ll be back to you next Tuesday with our special Thanksgiving edition newsletter so you can enjoy it before taking off for the holiday.  Next week, we’ll be talking about big Black Friday car sales going on, plus we'll share our annual holiday Gift Guide for the car guy or gal, or kiddo in your life! Today we have for you Kevin’s Famous Holiday Recipes, how to safely transport your food to Grandma’s, and although I don’t recommend it, should you want to cook a turkey on the manifold of your car, I tell you how.

Houston friends, sad news is below.  Through the years, many of you have purchased or leased cars from Mike ShawSadly, Mike passed away earlier this week, and I have some fond memories to share with you today.

Los Angeles listeners, we have another pre-emption this Saturday, but below I tell you how to listen live and invite you to call if you need me.  We heard from a ton of Texas callers last Saturday, so we welcome you again!  Below, you’ll find a list of the most dangerous cars on the road, and if you are going to get an electric car, you’d better do it quickly.  I explain why in my Car Pro Opinion column.

A couple of automakers’ wallets are lighter after NHTSA fined Ford, and the Department of Justice fined General Motors' Cruise, LLC, details are below.  Which auto finance company has the most satisfied customers?  Scroll down to find out, and Los Angeles listeners, your fantastic Auto Show starts today.  If you are going to buy something by the end of the year, go see them all at the show!

Self-employed and business owners, our annual guide to Tax Code 179 is below and time is running out to save you tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars. Be sure to check out our all new Car Pro Merchandise here and don’t miss Kim Komando’s Special Report on TV streaming services, it will save you money.

In advice today, I go into detail about buying a former rental car, a question I answered on the show last SaturdayIf you have not purchased any raffle tickets to win a custom 1974 Bronco or $150,000, consider it, since it is all for charity.

infiniti-qx60In reviews, I have a beautiful 3-row SUV, the 2025 Infiniti QX60 Luxe Black Edition, but there is a problem for me, you can find out what it was below. Our Amy Plemons reviews the 2025 Acura TLX Type S sports sedan.

Plus, a TON of other information and news you will enjoy, including my video of the week we talk about on the air all the time!  If you have never been to our FAQ page, take a minute and peruse the categories, something there will interest you for sure:

You’ll find the following stories and more info as you scroll down the newsletter:

  Los Angeles Radio Preemption Tomorrow

Screen Shot 2024-11-14 at 5.53.07 PM

We will not be on the air tomorrow, November 23, 2024 on KNX due to a football game they are obligated to air.  However, you can still join us by clicking LISTEN LIVE at CarPro.com from 9 AM Pacific/11 AM Central all the way to Noon Pacific/2 PM Central.  You can play us on your smartphone, and if you have to go somewhere, put us on the Bluetooth in your car!  Worst case, the podcast will be up at 12:30 Pacific for all 3 hours:

With fewer calls from Los Angeles likely, our friends in other markets will have a better chance of getting through!  Usually, the phone lines are jammed for all 3 hours, so if you’ve tried before and haven’t gotten through, this is your chance.  Store the phone number in your phone: (800) 926-7777

Thank you for your patience, we hate when this happens, too.  We’ll be back with you soon!

Rest In Peace: "Ugly" Mike Shaw 1964-2024

in-memory-of-mike-shaw

The world, and in particular the automotive world, lost a real legend this week.  Michael McKenzie Shaw, known to all as Ugly Mike lost his battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 60.  Mike had been the General Manager of a number of dealerships in the Houston area and had been a Car Pro contact for over 15 years.  Most recently he had helped my listeners at Honda of Lake Jackson.  I cannot begin to count the number of happy listeners emails I got on Mike through the years, but it is in the hundreds, if not thousands.

Regular listeners to the show will also recognize Mike as someone who filled in for me on the radio show occasionally the past couple of years.  There was nobody I could have trusted my audience to more than Mike Shaw.  I knew he would be completely honest with everyone and had a way of putting callers at ease immediately with his kind voice and funny sense of humor.

Remembering my friend and automotive legend Mike Shaw

Car Pro Opinion: Going Electric? Better Hurry!

5-1

Thinking about going electric? If so, I'd highly suggest doing so now. Indications are that as soon as Donald Trump gets sworn into the office of the President, there will be sweeping tax reforms.  Insiders say that the $7,500 government incentive to purchase electric vehicles will be one of the first cuts.

It's That Time! Kevin's Famous Holiday Recipes!

kevin-recipe-gif

My Trusty Sidekick Kevin McCarthy may have recently retired, but that doesn't mean we're going to let his Famous Holiday Recipes retire with him! We've been sharing them with you for well over a decade and the holidays just wouldn't be the same without them, or Kevin!

Back from the days when Kevin had a Monday through Friday show, he had three recipes he gave out every holiday season and still to this day gets many requests for them.

Just For Fun: Cooking A Turkey On Your Car Manifold

manifold-destiny-book-credit-simonand schusterWe are always trying to help you here at the CarPro. We give you Kevin’s famous holiday recipes every year, and for those of you multitaskers out there, here's how to actually cook your turkey (well, at least some of it) on your engine manifold on the way to grandma's house.

You'll need a semi-long road trip to do this, covering about 220 miles since it takes about four hours to cook, stopping to turn it once. This is according to the authors of the popular book Manifold Destiny: The One! The Only! Guide To Cooking On Your Car Engine (Amazon).

Jerry YT Graphic-2

Anyone who has sold cars for any amount of time can tell you a story about riding
along on a test drive with a bad driver, or someone who scares you by driving way
too fast. I feel really sorry for this salesperson, unknowingly handing the keys to a
fast Camaro to go on a test drive with disguised racecar driver Jeff Gordon. Poor
guy, this has to be the worst couple of minutes of his life!
