If you live in California and are thinking about going all-electric, you have a choice the rest of the nation doesn't, at least currently anyway: the 2023 Mazda MX-30. Mazda introduced the all-electric crossover last year. The 2023 model will arrive in California dealerships this spring starting from $34,110, not including $1,275 destination.
The MX-30 is Mazda's first all-electric vehicle. It plans to debut a larger CX-90 plug-in hybrid at the end of January.
The MX-30 is equipped with Mazda's e-Skyactiv technology along with a 35.5 lithium-ion battery. Range may be an issue for you, however. Mazda only gave it 100 miles on a full charge. While that number seems low, the MX-30 is really designed for urban commuting.
As we shared in our review of the 2022 model, the MX-30 has unique features like freestyle doors and a floating center console. Mazda also used sustainable materials on the inside like cork (which also pays homage to Mazda's heritage as a cork manufacturer.
Standard MX-30 features include Pure White leatherette seats with gray fabric, heated front seats, an 8.8-inch large center display with Mazda's latest Connect system with Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, and a seven-inch digital gauge display. Additional standard features include power moonroof, eight-way power driver seat with power lumbar support, and a rearview camera with rear parking sensors. Exterior features include18-inch silver finish aluminum alloy wheels, along with gloss black front grille and grille shutters. Jet Black, Ceramic Metallic or Polymetal Gray are single-tone exterior paint options.
Standard i-Activsense safety features include Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Smart Brake Support, Rear Direction Base Safety (Smart Brake Support-Reverse & Rear Cross-Traffic Braking), Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Driver Attention Alert, and High Beam Control.
The Premium Plus package adds a bunch of goodies including a Bose 12-speaker premium audio, heated steering wheel, 360° View Monitor with front parking sensors, Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry, and a complimentary three-month trial of SiriusXM satellite radio.
The Premium Plus also adds some i-Activsense saftey features including Blind Spot Assist, which enhances Blind Spot Monitoring by providing steering assist to help keep the vehicle in its own lane if the driver attempts to change lanes while another vehicle is detected in the blind spot. It also adds Front Cross Traffic Alert. When travelling at speeds below 6 mph, this feature gives drivers an audible and visual alert to warn them when sensors detect vehicles approaching from the front left or right side of the vehicle at speeds above 3 mph.
The Premium Plus rides on 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels in bright silver. Inside you'll get a choice of two color schemes: Pure White with gray fabric or Vintage Brown with black fabric. Both options use fabric with 20% recycled threads. Through this package, MX-30 is standard in Jet Black or available in premium paint options of Machine Gray Metallic or multi-tone Ceramic Metallic.
