Chevrolet is introducing its next all-electric vehicle - the new 2024 Equinox EV. The automaker says it expects the SUV to be the most affordable EV in its class, with a starting price around $30,000 for the 1LT model.
“We are at a turning point where EVs will be the mainstream choice for the next generation of customers and Equinox EV will lead this charge for us,” said Mary Barra, Chair and CEO of General Motors. “With the flexibility of GM’s Ultium Platform, we are bringing to market vehicles at nearly every price point and for every purpose.”
The Equinox is undoubtedly an important vehicle to the brand. The gas-powered model is the automaker's second best-selling vehicle behind the Silverado.
A standard front-wheel-drive system comes with a GM-estimated 210-horsepower and 242 lb.-ft. of torque. A more powerful 290-horsepower and 346 lb.-ft. torque eAWD system is available. One-Pedal Driving that allows the Equinox EV to accelerate and slow to a full stop, using only the accelerator, is standard.
Trims
The Equinox EV will be offered in 5 trims: three for the LT and two for the RS. eAWD is available across the lineup. Mid- and up-level LT and RS trims will feature front and rear lighting animation and an available light bar. 19-inch wheels are standard with available 20- and 21-inch wheels depending on the trim. A two-tone white roof available on the LT and an available black roof on the RS.
Inside, the Equinox seats five. Available features include personalized ambient lighting, a smart infotainment system, heated front and rear outboard seats, a heated steering wheel and even a heated windshield wiper park feature, which helps keep the area around the wipers clear of ice buildup. There's also a cool presence-based liftgate feature that's available. The liftgate will sense when you approach with the key fob.
The 3RS interior shown above in Adrenaline Red features an 8-way power-adjustable driver seat and 6-way power-adjustable front passenger seat.
Chevy says the new Equinox EV will offer up to a GM-estimated 300 miles of range on a full charge. Here's what charging times look like:
Chevy Equinox drivers can access available navigation and route planning through the MyChevy app. They'll also have access to Ultium Charge 360 with information and access to more than 110,000 publicly available charging points in the U.S. and Canada.
There's a long list of standard driver assistance features. Chevy Safety Assist includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Following Distance Indicator, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning and IntelliBeam automatic high beams. Also standard: Rear Park Assist, Reverse Automatic Braking, Safety Alert Seat, Rear Cross Traffic Braking and Blind Zone Steering Assist.
Owners who want even more ADAS features can opt for available Adaptive Cruise Control and HD Surround Vision. A Head-Up Display and Rear Camera Mirror are also available.
Super Cruise, the industry’s first true hands-free driver-assistance technology is also available. It allows drivers to travel hands-free on more than 400,000 miles of compatible roads across the U.S. and Canada.
The Equinox EV is due out in the fall of 2023.
