Ford F-150 Lightning books are back open for the next wave of reservation holders. Ford reopened ordering last Thursday, with one big change: new, more expensive pricing. Ford is increasing the price between $6000 and $8500 depending on the model, citing "significant material cost increases and other factors".
Along with the price hike there will be some improvements for 2023. There standard battery models will get a small range boost from 230 to 240-miles. Ford is also adding two new exterior colors and available Pro Trailer Hitch Assist technology.
An industry first, Pro Trailer Hitch Assist automatically controls steering, throttle and brake inputs to make hitching trailers easier. Pro Trailer Hitch Assist is standard on the Tow Technology Package, which is available on Pro, XLT and Lariat trims and standard on certain Lariat trims and the Platinum trim.
Starting in the fall, vehicles built with the standard range battery, available on Pro, XLT and Lariat trims, will have a targeted EPA-estimated range of 240 miles – up from 230 miles.
F-150 Lightning customers can choose two new colors among the 10 available options – Avalanche Gray and Azure Gray metallic tri-coat. Those colors replace Atlas Blue, Ice Blue Silver and Smoked Quartz Metallic, which are not available on models built starting this fall.
Ford says the Ford Pro Special Service Vehicle Package is also now available on F-150 Lightning Pro models for fleet customers. The package includes police-grade heavy-duty cloth front seats, built-in steel intrusion plates and available roof-mounted LED warning beacons. Ford says it's honored pricing on all customer orders to date. But customers with new orders can expect higher prices. Due to cost increases and supply chain issues, Ford says it's adjusted MSRP starting with the opening of the next wave of F-150 Lightning orders. This means a $6,000 to $8,500 price bump depending on model.
Reservation holders who previously received an invitation to order, but who elected to extend their reservation because their vehicle specification was unavailable, will receive a private offer for use in upcoming waves.
“Current order holders awaiting delivery are not impacted by these price adjustments,” Marin Gjaja, chief customer officer, Model e, said. “We’ve announced pricing ahead of re-opening order banks so our reservation holders can make an informed decision around ordering a Lightning.”
Ford says the first customer deliveries began in May with over 4,400 sold year to date. Ford also recently announced it's delivered a Lightning in all 50 states.
