As I said on the air last Saturday, it feels like the car business is back. Inventories are building and incentives have gone way up in the past month or so. It would appear that August 2023 sales will be up around 20% from a year ago August, at least from the automakers that still report sales monthly. We will get a better look at the big picture once September sales are reported in early October.
Of the car companies that reported August sales, Acura saw the largest increase, up 61% followed by Honda that was up 56%. Toyota brand was up 16% and its luxury brand Lexus was up 9%. Toyota took the #1 spot from Ford, but Ford holds a substantial lead year-to-date.
