The CarPro Show would like to congratulate the winning teams and participants of the 3rd annual Auto Tech Competition hosted by the North Texas Automobile Dealers. The event, which included a career day, took place last weekend at the Texas Motor Speedway.
NTXAD says 40 high school teams from across North and East Texas participated in the competition this year. They competed for scholarships and prizes and it was also a chance for students to network and launch careers in the automotive industry at a time there is a shortage of auto techs nationwide.
You can check out CBS 11 news coverage of the event below:
There are two parts to the competition. The first is a Workstations Challenge where teams are tested on a number of things: their knowledge of tools, measuring instruments, specific vehicle service information, and job interview skills. The Workstations Challenge accounts for 40 percent of the total team score.
The second part is where teams get to work diagnosing and solving a number of pre-assigned problems on a vehicle. Some repairs are scored higher than others based on how difficult they are. The score makes up 60 percent of the total team score.

Winning Teams
First, second and third-place winning team members receive scholarships for NTXAD’s Fast Track Automotive Technician Training Program which gives students hands-on classroom instruction in conjunction with employment in a franchised new car dealership service center during a five-week training course. The scholarships are funded by the Carroll Shelby Foundation.
Members of each winning team also receive thousands of dollars in tools from Snap-On to help them start their career.
