FCA Recalls Nearly 1.5 Million Ram Trucks Over Rollaway Risk

A major recall to pass along involving nearly 1.5 million Ram Trucks in the U.S. over concern they could shift out of the �park� position. Heavy-duty trucks represent the majority of impacted vehicles but certain Ram 1500 models are included in the recall as well. The company says it�s aware of seven potentially related injuries and a small number of potentially related accidents.

• Models:

  • Potential Number of Units Affected: 1,482,874
  • All recalled trucks are equipped with a column shifter. Trucks with rotary-dial shifters or floor-mounted shifters are unaffected.
    • 2016-2017 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of less than 10,000 lbs
    • 2011-2017 Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles
    • 2009-2017 Ram 1500
    • 2010-2017 Ram 2500 and 3500



• Issue: TRANSMISSION COULD SHIFT OUT OF PARK

  • NTHSA recall documents indicate that pushing the brake pedal for prolonged periods when the vehicle is running and in PARK may cause the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) pin to stick in the open position. With the pin in the open position, the transmission can be shifted out of PARK into any gear without pushing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition.

  • There is no fix yet.



• Notes

  • The recall is expected to begin February 8, 2018.
  • FCA has been investigating the issue since March 2017 following a complaint about a 2016 truck that resulted in a driver injury.
