Update 10/27/22: 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 reservations are full but waitlist is available.
Another all-electric pickup is jumping into the fray - though it won't officially hit the road until early 2024. We're talking about the 2024 Sierra EV. An Edition 1 model will be the first to launch in 2024, followed by AT4 and Elevation trims that will offer a selection of ranges and trailering ratings. The Edition 1 will stand atop the lineup as the pinnacle of GMC Sierra EV luxury.
“This is the Denali of EVs — and a truck that is every bit a GMC,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC. “That means it leaves nothing on the table when it comes to hauling, towing and overall power while unlocking even more possibilities around what a GMC pickup can offer."
Note the range, horsepower and torque are the same for the upcoming 2024 Silverado EV RST edition.
Up to 9,500 pounds (4,309 kg) of trailering capacity and up to 1,300 pounds of payload. A trailering package comes standard on the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1.
The Sierra EV Denali Edition 1’s isn't short on technology. The vehicle will turn on after the driver enters with a key fob. It's also equipped with GMC's first portrait-oriented 16.8-inch-diagonal customizable touchscreen, the largest ever in Sierra, that's capable of over-the-air updates. And talk about camera views. There are up to 14 available camera views on Edition 1. There is also an 11-inch-diagonal reconfigurable driver information center and a 14-inch multi-color Head Up Display.
The Edition 1 is also equipped with Super Cruise, GM's hands-free driver assistance technology which allows drivers to travel hands-free on more than 400,000 miles of compatible roads across the U.S. and Canada, even when towing.
"The 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 is just the beginning,” said Aldred. “It will offer customers our very latest in technology, capability and luxury delivered in a way only GMC can do — with much more to come. From the HUMMER EV supertruck to the first-ever Sierra EV, GMC continues to write the next chapter in its future as a premium truck and SUV brand.”
The Denali Edition 1 cabin will be luxurious - like the Denali name implies. New cabin features include an all-new, panoramic fixed glass roof. The roof is infrared reflective and has a UV coating to help keep the cabin comfortable. Also new: an inductive wireless charger finished in open-pore wood.
A 60/40-split second-row seat offers four configurations that allow users to haul gear or equipment while still accommodating a passenger, and an available tonneau cover allows longer items such as a kayak or windsurfing board to be stowed under a lockable, weatherproof cover.
The Sierra EV, HUMMER EV Pickup and SUV all share GM's Ultium Platform. The Ultium battery pack enables the Edition 1's GM-estimated driving range of 400 miles on a full charge. GMC says as a structural element of the vehicle, it contributes to the Sierra EV's overall strength, durability and performance. The placement of the battery pack also lowers the truck’s center of gravity, which leads to enhanced ride comfort and driving confidence whether you're on and off-road.
Front and rear electric drive units channel a GM-estimated 754 horsepower and 785 lb.-ft. of torque to the wheels via an e4WD system in Max Power mode, giving the truck exceptional traction and capability in almost every driving scenario.
It's also equipped with:
Additionally, the Edition 1’s Power Station Pro allows the truck to be used as a mobile power source. With the available Ultium Power Bar accessory, the 2024 Sierra EV offers 10.2kW of off-board power through up to 10 outlets that can help power tools and other accessories on the trail or at a campsite, as needed. When properly equipped, Power Station Pro can even power another EV.
This off-board power capability means that with the right configuration, such as a bi-directional charger and additional products and services offered through GM Energy’s Ultium Home line, the Edition 1 can power a home’s essential necessities, for up to 21 days collectively.
The Sierra EV Denali includes a 19.2kW onboard AC charging module for home and public charging. It also features 800V DC Public Fast Charging capability of up to 350kW, enabling approximately 100 miles of range to be added in only 10 minutes. Owners have access to Ultium Charge 360 which includes access to more than 110,000 publicly available charging points in the U.S. and Canada.
Up front, you'll find the eTrunk. It's lockable weatherproof cargo space with two drains where the engine would be in a traditional truck, along with a 120-volt power outlet.
Edition 1 will be offered exclusively in a Crew Cab model with an integrated 5-foot, 11-inch cargo bed. Its storage capacity is maximized with a GMC-first MultiPro Midgate expandable bed for hauling longer items, It provides 9 feet of storage between the cab and the tailgate, when the Midgate is open. GMC’s MultiPro Tailgate is also standard. When the tailgate is down, the maximum load floor length extends to nearly 11 feet with the MidGate down and the MultiPro Tailgate’s load-stop open.
Deliveries of the 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 are expected to begin in early 2024, with a starting MSRP of $107,000 (plus destination.) Details on other Sierra EV models is still to come - but GMC says the starting MSRP will be around $50,000 (plus DFC).
