A new era of police pursuit vehicles is upon us. One that's all-electric. That era begins with the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro Special Service Vehicle. It's the first-ever all-electric police pickup and one based on the new all-electric F-150 Lightning.
The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro SSV is designed for police use. Ford says it combines benefits of an electric powertrain with law enforcement-specific interior features of F-150 Police Responder®, including police-grade heavy-duty cloth seats, built-in steel intrusion plates and available roof-mounted LED warning beacons.
As for performance, police departments will get the most power and capability with the extended range battery with 580-horsepower, 775 lb.-ft. of torque, a 10,000-pound towing capability and a sub-four-second 0-60 mph acceleration.
Ford says it's been providing police departments with vehicles for more than 70 years. Currently, Ford Pro customers include more than 12,000 police departments across the country and Ford says its police vehicle lineup outsells all other police vehicles combined, something the automaker attributes to a close collaboration with its customers, specifically the Ford Police Advisory Board.
“We're proud to offer America’s first electric police pickup truck to local government customers who can use the truck’s game-changing technology to help improve their productivity,” said Nate Oscarson, Ford Pro national government sales manager. “Pro Power Onboard can serve as a mobile power source to light up evening accident scenes on the highway, the electric powertrain helps to potentially reduce costs associated with fuel and scheduled maintenance needs and the Mega Power Frunk provides extra lockable storage on top of purpose-built police additions our customers have come to expect from the leader in police vehicles.”
The F-150 Lightning Pro SSV isn't just designed for pursuit, but other situations as well. Such as assisting at an accident or crime scene or in situations where officers may need to tow a boat or trailer. Features from F-150 Police Responder® include:

As part of Ford Pro’s platform of connected vehicles, software and services, the targeted zero-emissions police truck comes pre-configured to seamlessly connect to a department’s existing fleet of Ford and non-Ford internal combustion engine and battery-electric vehicles, chargers, and fleet management software. When used together, Ford says police departments can proactively manage when vehicles are charged and serviced, resulting in potentially lower operating costs and improved uptime.
