Back in August of 2022, we reported that Ford was increasing prices of its all-electric F-150 pickup between $6000 and $8500 (depending on the model), citing "significant material cost increases and other factors". Fast-forward to nearly a year later and there is some no doubt welcome news for prospective Lightning buyers. Ford recently announced it will lower prices for the entire F-150 Lightning lineup.
Ford Lowers F-150 Lightning Prices
The automaker says it's taking advantage of increased plant capacity, continued work on scaling production and cost, and improving battery raw material costs to help lower the Lightning's MSRP across the lineup. It's a significant price adjustment, too. We're talking a $6,000 to nearly $10,000 price drop depending on the model. You can check out model pricing below:
Also, Ford says customer's will have greater availability of their built-to-order-truck as early as October at an MSRP closer to initial Lightning pricing.
“Shortly after launching the F-150 Lightning, rapidly rising material costs, supply constraints and other factors drove up the cost of the EV truck for Ford and our customers,” said Marin Gjaja, chief customer officer, Ford Model e. “We’ve continued to work in the background to improve accessibility and affordability to help to lower prices for our customers and shorten the wait times for their new F-150 Lightning.”
Ford is building the F-150 Lightning at its Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Michigan. The plant is currently closed as Ford complete plants upgrades so it can produce 150,000 F-150 trucks annual beginning this fall. That's triple the plant's current annual rate.
Order Books Open Now
F-150 Lightning orders are open now. Ford's offering a summer sales event $1,000 bonus to retail customers who build their own XLT, Lariat or Platinum truck through their dealer or Via Ford.com from July 6th-July 31st. Eligible customers who finance through Ford Credit can get interest rates as low as 1.0 percent APR for 36 months.
Ford says most F-150 Lightning models are also eligible for as much as $7,500 in potential Inflation Reduction Act consumer and commercial electric vehicle tax credits.
