Honda is the latest in a growing list of automakers turning to Tesla for its charging stations. The automaker recently announced it's reached an agreement with Tesla, Inc. to adopt Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS) for the charging port of its EV models that will go on sale in North America beginning in 2025. Ford, GM, Nissan, Fisker and Volvo have also made similar agreements with Tesla.
Honda says it will launch a new EV model in 2025 in North America equipped with the NACS port and that it will continue adopting NACS standards for future EV models.
If you happen to buy a Honda (or Acura) EV sold before 2025, it will still have the Combined Charging System (CCS) port. However, like other automakers, Honda, too, will provide an adaptor to make those vehicles accessible to Tesla chargers.
This is the latest move by Honda to give vehicle owners access to more charging stations as it grows its EV lineup. Honda is also one of seven major automakers to recently join forces to establish a high-powered charging network in North America with the first stations opening in the U. S. next summer.
