The huge Cars & Coffee meeting in Houston has banned late model Ford Mustangs, Chevy Camaros, and Dodge Chargers and Challengers from future events. The announcement was made on the group’s Instagram page.
The group temporarily restricted the modern muscle cars in November 2023. We have used the Cars & Coffee cars leaving the meets several times as our Car Pro Show weekly newsletter Videos of the Week because there are often incidents that happened.
In the Nov. 4th, 2024 Instagram post, the group stated:
“Due to this morning’s burnouts and revving, we will be temporarily banning all Mustangs, Chargers & Camaros. We keep asking for cooperation to reduce this behavior and we have signs posted. If this behavior continues we will be forced to only do Invitational Only Events. We have an Epic lineup for the end-of-the-year Toy Drive. Please stop encouraging this behavior, spread the word please, and thank you.”
In the past, law enforcement has canceled the meeting because of some who drove recklessly and unsafely. The group hopes to discourage this behavior with the other attendees.
If you have never attended one of these meetings, they are often huge, and they are held all over the world. Reaction to the Instagram post was mixed as you might imagine, with some members in favor of the ban and others said it was discriminatory.
It is unclear what year models of the ban will be enforced, or if other high-performance cars like Corvettes, will also be banned. It is also unclear if the smaller engine versions of the banned cars will be allowed. It does appear that if you have an electric Mustang Mach-e, you’ll be OK.
