When you're deciding on a budget for a new vehicle, you don't just have the price of the vehicle itself and monthly payment to consider. But also the cost of ownership, which includes insurance.
The researchers at Mercury Insurance recently took a look at the two most dominate vehicle segments in the new car market - trucks and SUVs - to find out which vehicles were the most affordable when it comes to insuring.
"The appeal of trucks and SUVs is that they can handle weekday work commutes as well as weekend excursions," said Mercury Insurance Director of Product Management R&D Chong Gao. "New models have fantastic fuel economy for pickups and a variety of sizes to fit your lifestyle. Mercury Insurance wants to let consumers know about which truck or SUV might be the best fit for them and their families."
The list ranks the Top 10 2023 model year vehicles in each segment. Chevrolet takes the top two spots as far as pickup trucks go, while Ford dominates it overall with five spots. When it comes to SUVs, Fiat is the most budget-friendly to insure, while Honda has three vehicles in the top 10.
