If you're looking for luxury, your first thought might be a flagship sedan or SUV. But these days, it can also be found in a pickup truck. The newest of which to hit the market is the 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone, the brand's new flagship pickup currently competing for Luxury Pickup of Texas. (The winner to be named by the Texas Auto Writers Association, of which I'm a board member, on November 1st.)
2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone
The Capstone, equipped with Toyota's new i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain, was introduced on the Tundra as the new halo grade for the Toyota brand. It's available exclusively as a CrewMax with a 5.5-foot bed and rides on 22-inch chrome wheels. The Capstone is shown here on location at TAWA's recent Texas Truck Rodeo held at the Eagles Canyon Raceway Off-Road Circuit in North Texas. (Ram also brought a Tundra TRD Pro model.)
Pictured here in Wind Chill Pearl, the Capstone is the first North American Toyota vehicle with semi-aniline leather-trimmed seats. Soft touch materials abound from the multi-textured door panels and dash to the center console and comfortable driver's seat.
The Capstone's exclusive two-tone white and black leather interior impresses with its dark American walnut wood-grain trim with an open-pore finish on the center console and passenger-side dash. Capstone is also the only Tundra grade with acoustic glass on the front doors for more exterior sound deadening.
I have to note all the window real estate in here. The dual-pane panoramic moonroof really makes the cabin feel airy and spacious.
Tech features include a standard 14-inch multimedia touchscreen, standard 12-speaker JBL Premium Audio system, 10-inch Color Head-Up Display and Towing Technology Package. Price on this model as equipped is $77, 339.
Back seat passengers will be sitting in comfort too, where the premium materials continue. They'll also enjoy manual rear sunshades.
The Capstone looks the part, too, with its chrome exterior trim, unique grille and 22-inch chrome wheels. There are also chrome “TUNDRA” tailgate inserts and chrome trim accents. Standard convenience features include power running boards.
This is a 2022 model but the 2023 Toyota Tundra Capstone is currently listed on Toyota's website.
