Mecum Auctions is back for 2022 Monterey Car Week. Mecum's Daytime Auction kicks off Thursday and runs through 20th at the Del Monte Golf Course. The auction house says more than 50 consignments comprising the world’s finest exotics and supercars will join a 600-car lineup of American muscle, classics, prewar and other featured vehicles. Vehicles include a custom convertible from the iconic movie Grease, autographed by the late Olivia Newton-John.
The 1949 Mercury custom convertible from the1978 film “Grease” will cross the block on Saturday. Known as “Hell’s Chariot”, the convertible was driven by Danny's Rival "Craterface", played by Dennis Stewart. The vehicle's dashboard is autographed by the late Olivia Newton-John, who played Sandy in the film, as well as by the film's director Randal Kleiser.
The car was reportedly rediscovered over ten years ago in a car repair shop in Huntington Beach, California. Read more here.
Originally built and customized by Eddie Paul of Customs by Eddie Paul it's accompanied by a notarized letter signed by Eddie Paul identifying this car as the "Hell's Chariot" built for Paramount Studios and used in 'Grease'.
It has a Mecum Auctions estimate of $600,00 and $750,000.
Other highlights include a Heritage Graphite 2020 McLaren Speedtail that is No. 91 of 106 produced and shows just 728 actual miles on its 4.0L/1,035 HP M840T twin-turbocharged V-8 engine; the car boasts a parallel hybrid system eMotor and a 7-speed Graziano dual-clutch automatic transmission.
A 2014 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse Jean-Pierre Wimille Heritage Edition that is one of just three produced honoring the Bugatti factory driver who won both the 1937 and 1939 24 Hours of Le Mans. The car was designed to emulate the exterior of the 1937 Le Mans-winning Bugatti Type 57G Tank, and its presentation at Mecum Monterey 2022 is akin to a homecoming occurrence as the Jean-Pierre Wimille Legend Edition debuted in August 2013 in Pebble Beach, California.
Ford highlights include a 2017 Ford GT and one of just 23 original factory 427 Competition Cobras produced. The 1965 Shelby 427 Competition Cobra wears Serial No. CSX3006 and was campaigned throughout Europe in 1966 and driven by three Formula 1 drivers: Chris Irwin, David Piper and Bob Bondurant. It boasts an extensive restoration performed by Legendary Motorcar Company back to its original specifications, and it retains its original aluminum body and chassis.
Mecum Auctions says two vehicles piloted by the late actor Paul Walker will cross the Monterey auction block, including his personal 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 as well as a 2001 Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R V-Spec II that he drove to promote the release of the "Fast & Furious" films.
The Classic Low Mileage Collection—with all but one of the 22 lots to be offered at no reserve—includes nine Cadillacs and four Chevrolet Corvettes, highlighted by a 1931 Cadillac 370A V-12 Fleetwood Sport Phaeton that was an AACA Senior Grand National winner and a 1955 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster that is No. 214 of the 700 built and is presented in Harvest Gold with a 265/195 HP V-8 engine and Powerglide automatic transmission.
