Happy 40th Anniversary to the Volkswagen Jetta GLI! You know what's coming next... yep, a special edition to celebrate the milestone of the VW-dubbed "GTI with a trunk".
40th Anniversary Jetta GLI
The 40th Anniversary Edition 2024 Jetta GLI will be sold exclusively in North America. Production is already underway after kicking off in late July. There will only be 1,984 of these limited edition models to go around, with 1,984 marking the year the GLI debuted.
Exterior Design
The 40th anniversary edition gets a blacked out look that contrasts with three exterior color options: Pure Gray, Pure White, and Rising Blue.
Blackout detailing includes front to back contrasting with the GLI’s trademark red trim along with a black grille, mirror caps, door handles, and spoiler. The 40th Anniversary edition rides on 18-inch wheels in a black, ten-spoke design.
Interior
You'll find unique 40th anniversary details throughout the cabin.
Embossed molecular cloth seats are uniquely fabricated for the limited-edition trim - and they'll vary in each of the 1,984 vehicles produced, making them one-of-a-kind.
Engraved cupholders will feature the GLI logo in one, and 1984 in the other. Seat tags and front door sills read "GLI 40".
You'll also see a "40" at the six o'clock position on the steering wheel.
Powertrain and Performance
Like the current GLI Autobahn, the 40th Anniversary Edition is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that produces 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. You can opt for a six speed manual or 7-speed automatic transmission. Of course it comes with a lengthy list of performance features including: larger brakes, a Sport HMI performance manager, VAQ electronically-controlled torque-sensing limited differential and XDS electronic differential lock, a DCC adaptive damping system and last but not least, a sport exhaust.
Price and Availability
The 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI 40th Anniversary Edition starts from $28,085 if you opt for the manual gearbox and $28,885 for the DSG transmission model. You'll also need to tack on $1,150 more for destination. The Jetta GLI will begin arriving in dealerships later this summer.
