iSeeCars is sharing its latest analysis of the most popular car colors on U.S. roads. Its new study also tracks how color preferences have shifted over the past five years - and they've not changed much.
Most Popular Car Colors In 2023
In 2023, white is once again the most popular car color (in 40 states). Black is the second most popular color (in the remaining 10 states.) Gray comes in third, followed by silver. Researchers say these colors, referred to as grayscale colors, were also the top colors in 2018 and that they've grown in popularity in the past five years, moving from 77.2 percent of 1- to 5-year old used cars in 2018, to 78.6 last year and to 78.9 percent in 2023. Gray has made the biggest move, gaining 4 percent, while silver has lost ground, dropping 3.4 percent.
iSeeCars says it analyzed over 10 million 1- to 5-year-old used cars sold in 2018 and 2023. While the most popular car colors, in broad strokes, roughly stayed the same, some colors have moved up and down in popularity over this period.
iSeeCars researchers say the four grayscale colors #1-#4 are now seen on nearly 80 percent of U.S. cars.

The colors gaining the most substantial market share: gray, white, blue and orange. Colors that lost ground along with silver were red, black and brown. Researchers also say cars in uncommon colors like beige, yellow and green held their value better than mainstream colors.
