If you're looking for a way to protect valuable tools, equipment and gear in your pickup, here's a new product you may be interested in. It's a new smart security system designed for truck beds. It's the first product launched by Ford and ADT's new joint venture called Canopy.

Canopy Pickup Cam

The Ford, ADT-backed Canopy Pickup Cam is designed for pickups. The app-driven video security device monitors your pickup bed with a 180-degree wide view HD camera.  Along with purchasing the system,  you'll have to pay a monthly subscription fee for real-time professional security monitoring and video storage.

The company says you can install the aftermarket system yourself in about 15 minutes. It's not just for Ford trucks - but any make and model of any age. The system also deters thieves using a LED bar that signals the truck bed is under surveillance.

Canopy says it created the device in response to a growing number of tradespeople and truck owners getting their valuable tools, equipment, gear stolen from the back of their pickup.  Last year, Ford reported that the FBI estimates that stolen work equipment cost more than $7.4 billion in 2020 in the U.S.

The system's camera is connected to Canopy Hub which enables continuous monitoring using cellular connectivity and dedicated power.  Owners can keep tabs on what's happening using the Canopy Security app, where they can view the live video feed and past recorded events stored on the cloud. If the camera detects suspicious activity,  the system will alert the customer with a push notification.  An on-demand Emergency feature can connect users with an ADT professional monitoring agent.

Pre-orders

You can pre-order one now through this Fall when orders open to the general public. The device will run you $299.   Then you'll need a $14.99 monthly subscription fee for the monitoring service. The company says the subscription also gets you 4G LTE connectivity, secure cloud storage for your data, real-time alert, ADT emergency help and access to future software updates and new feature rollouts.

For the first 1,500 devices, Canopy will offer a 50% discount off the MSRP of $299 and a monthly subscription of $14.99.
