If you've been shopping for an electric vehicle, and had your eye on the Nissan LEAF, this will certainly be of interest. Nissan is dropping the price substantially on the LEAF for the 2022 model year. So much so it's now the least expensive EV on the market, when you take the still available federal tax credit into consideration.
On sale now, the base level 2022 LEAF S starts from $28,375 (with destination). That's a roughly $4,200 price drop on the base model from 2021. The price drop will vary per model. Qualified purchasers may also be eligible for the aforementioned potential federal tax credit of up to $7,500.
So why the price drop? Nissan says it demonstrates its commitment to mass-market EVs and makes it more accessible to people. It also provides more value, too, as the 2022 model comes with a list of newly standard features.
New EV-focused standard features include a CHAdeMO Quick Charge Port and portable 240-volt charging cable for every model. More standard tech arrives as well. Eight features previously featured in the Technology Packages for the SV PLUS grade, including ProPILOT Assist and Intelligent Around View Monitor, will now be standard.

“Nissan was the first automaker with a globally-available mass-market electric vehicle and we’re continuing in the tradition of making electric vehicles available to everyone,” said Aditya Jairaj, director, EV Sales and Marketing, Nissan U.S. “With the amount of technology that LEAF offers, combined with new pricing, this is simply just an amazing value.”
The standard LEAF model comes with a 40 kWh lithium-ion battery and 110-kW electric motor that delivers 147 horsepower, 236 lb.-ft. of torque and up to 149 miles of range. It’s available in S and SV trim levels.
If you want more range and power, you can opt for the LEAF PLUS. Its larger-capacity 62-kWh lithium-ion battery increases range to up to 226 miles (LEAF S PLUS only). A more powerful motor delivers 214 horsepower and 250 lb.-ft. of torque. It's offered in three trims: S PLUS, SV PLUS and SL PLUS.
MSRP prices for the 2022 Nissan LEAF and LEAF PLUS are as follows, and do not include a Destination and Handling $975 charge.

Every 2022 Nissan LEAF is offered with a limited lithium-ion battery warranty covering defects in materials or workmanship for eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, for the battery pack. Nissan also provides a limited warranty against battery capacity loss below nine bars of capacity as shown on the vehicle’s battery capacity level gauge for the first eight years or 100,000 miles for all models.
Nissan says it's sold more than 500,000 LEAF vehicles globally since being introduced in 2010. During that time, the LEAF's also amassed more than five billion EV miles driven worldwide.
The automaker expects 40 percent of its U.S. vehicle sales to be all-electric by 2030. It recently introduced the new all-electric Ariya SUV due to arrive later this year. You can check out our first look at the ARIYA below:
