Subaru will soon bid farewell to its longest-running nameplate - the Legacy. The automaker recently announced it will end production of its mid-size sedan following the 2025 model year. Subaru cites the reason for its demise as two-fold: America's shift from passenger cars to SUVS along with the brand's plans for electrification.
The Legacy's importance to the brand can't be understated. It really helped build Subaru's reputation for quality here in the States and was the first vehicle Subaru ever built in the U.S. when it debuted in 1989. The first-generation model featured sleek styling and advanced technology such as multi-point fuel injection, four-wheel disc brakes, fully independent suspension, and available Full-Time AWD. The Legacy wagon also paved the way for the Outback.
Subaru says in total, the six generations of the Subaru Legacy have racked up over 1.3 million sales in the U.S. and that 94% of Subaru Legacy vehicles sold in the last 10 years are still on the road today.
The 2025 Subaru Legacy arrives in dealerships this spring starting from $24,895. EyeSight safety tech is standard across the lineup.
