With hybrids soaring in popularity these days, Lexus is timing this just right. It's introducing a hybrid to its flagship Lexus LX lineup. The first-ever 2025 Lexus LX 700h arrives at the beginning of 2025. The lineup also adds a new Overtail grade that's available exclusively as a hybrid. Also new for 2025, the Lexus LX lineup gains a standard head-up display and Lexus Safety System+ 3.0.
The new 700h is equipped with a 3.4L twin-turbo hybrid V6 - the same engine as the LX 600 - but adds a nickel-metal hydride battery. The hybrid system delivers 457 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque, a boost over the LX 600's non-hybrid 409 horsepower and 479 lb.-ft. of torque. Lexus says it will offer an improved EPA-estimated combined fuel economy rating of 20 MPG (specs are tentative) and an 8,000 pound towing capacity. The 600 and 700h share a 10-speed automatic transmission.
There are a few Lexus firsts with the new hybrid system. For one, it sits on a new three-cross frame. To accommodate the new battery in the rear floor, a new spare tire cross has been designed to reposition the spare tire. The automaker says the adjustment optimizes the mounting angle, lowering the installation position while maintaining the departure angle, thereby balancing off-road capability with serviceability. The battery is located under the luggage compartment for two-row configurations, and beneath the third-row seat for three-row configurations.
Secondly, the system also features both an alternator and a starter as standard components. So if the hybrid system is inoperative, the starter enables independent engine ignition, while the alternator powers the 12V auxiliary battery, allowing the vehicle to continue driving using only the engine.
In a third brand first, the LX adds motor-driven power to the low range for the first time in a Lexus. Lexus says this feature, in conjunction with the various modes of Multi-Terrain Select, enables motor-only driving in scenarios requiring precise throttle control, such as rocky paths, dirt roads, and deep snow, helping to achieve exceptional off-road performance and ease of handling.
Other features for the 700h: A unique shelf system in the cargo space with fold-flat capability due to the placement of the battery. A center console cool box and rear manual sunshades are also standard features.
The LX 700h is also equipped with a waterproof AC inverter positioned under the center console, allowing for external power supply of up to 2400W. USB Type-C power outlets have also been installed at the rear of the center console and in the rear deck.
The LX 700h is the only LX with Advanced Park with Remote Park.
2025 LX 700h Overtrail
Like the GX Overtrail, the exclusively hybrid-only LX Overtrail grade offers additional features and equipment designed for outdoor adventures. It's offered in an Earth hue with a choice of Black or Stone Brown semi-aniline leather-trim on the seats. Door panels feature Stone Brown stitching and there are Black Open Pore wood accents on the center console and door panels.
Overtrail adds front and rear locking differentials, a 2,400W AC inverter, and off-road all-weather floor liners. The vehicle rides on 33-inch All-Terrain tires and 18-inch wheels, a front skid plate, and an appearance package, featuring a matte gray grille, black door handles, dark gray roof rails, dark chrome-finished window trim and bumper trim, and black overfenders.
The 700h Overtrail can be equipped as a two or three-row configuration.
The LX 600 and LX 700h will go on sale at the beginning of 2025. The 2025 LX is offered in five grades: Premium, F SPORT Handling, Luxury, Ultra Luxury, and the new Overtrail. The three-trim LX 600 lineup starts from $106,850 including destination with the LX hybrid four-grade lineup starting from $115,350.
