The microchip shortage continues to hinder sales in the U.S. This is affecting all segments of the industry, even small SUVs, one of the hottest in America.
Of the automakers that report monthly, total sales were off an astonishing 52,000 small SUVs just in April of 2022 versus April of 2021. If we had all the automaker numbers, the results would be even more incredible.
RAV4 and CR-V widely dominated April small SUV sales, but the RAV4 continues to dominate. The chip shortage is now catching up with Honda, who hasn’t been too badly affected until recently. RAV4 maintains a commanding lead of 50,000 plus sales year-to-date.
