When the smoke cleared last Monday on the 3rd quarter of 2022 sales, it was a mixed bag compared to last year. Some automakers were up, like Cadillac, which was up 50% from Q3 of 2021. There were plenty of losers, however, like Maserati which was down 59%.
The Detroit 3 was also mixed, with Ford Motor Company up 16% due to more vehicles, especially pickups, being produced. General Motors ended the quarter up 25%, in spite of a sharp drop at Buick. Stellantis was down this quarter by 6%, with Alfa Romeo, Fiat, and Maserati dragging them down.
The pain of no microchips continues at Honda Motors. Quarter #3 of this year resulted in a drop of 36% versus the 3rd quarter of 2021. The Honda brand was off 35% while Acura dropped 43%.
Here are the winners and losers by brand for the last quarter and how that stacks up to the same quarter in 2021. Note: Not reporting as of yet: Land Rover/Jaguar, and Mercedes-Benz.
