2024 Q2 U.S. Auto Sales Report: Toyota Is No. 1

Written By: Jerry Reynolds | Jul 9, 2024 1:00:00 PM

Just looking at the sales numbers for the second quarter, total sales were down less than 1%, but these numbers cannot be relied on due to the CDK ransomware attack that consumed over 15,000 dealerships in the United States.  We’ll see those missing sales being reported in July.

In the top five, Toyota took the #1 position followed by Ford, then Chevy, Honda, and Nissan followed.  There were more winners than losers in the second quarter with notable showings from Volvo, Fiat, VW, and Lincoln, while Ram, Dodge, Chrysler, Audi, and Acura had the biggest losses, but again, who really knows what the real numbers looked like.

I included the all-electric automakers who generally just report estimates, so I don’t put much stock in them, but I have them for those who might be interested.  I’ve never actually figured out if the Tesla numbers are accurate, but I do believe the Rivian numbers.

The year-to-date numbers are not final yet, but I’ll have those for you when available.
