The list of automakers signing on to use Tesla Supercharger keeps getting longer. Toyota is now the latest automaker to announce an agreement with Tesla to adopt its North American Charging Standard (NACS) for its battery-electric vehicles. Toyota says the move will give both Toyota and Lexus owners access to more than 12,000 Tesla Superchargers across America.
Beginning in 2025, Toyota will integrate the NACS ports into certain Toyota and Lexus BEVs, including Toyota's all-new, three-row, battery-electric Toyota SUV that will be assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK).
Owners of other BEV's with the Combined Charging System (CCS) will be offered access to an adapter, so they too can use NACS charging also starting in 2025.
Toyota says through both the Toyota and Lexus apps, customers have access to an extensive charging network, comprising over 84,000 charging ports in North America, including Level 2 and DC fast chargers. With NACS, BEV owners will have access to more charging options, especially DC fast chargers, allowing greater confidence to travel to even more destinations.
Toyota's decision to go with Tesla Superchargers follows a long list of other automakers that started with Ford, and also includes Acura, GM, BMW, Fisker, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Kia, Genesis, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Rivian, Polestar, and Volvo.
