'Tis automotive awards season, and thus comes our first of two award posts of the week. The U.S. News & World 's 2023 Best Cars for the Money awards cover 12 automotive categories and spotlight SUVs and minivans that represent the best combination of long-term value and excellent ownership experience.
“A Best Car for the Money award represents a strong value over the course of ownership and at the dealership,” said Jim Sharifi, managing editor of U.S. News Best Cars. “A new vehicle is a big purchase for any buyer, especially as new-car transaction prices continue to rise. In addition, the least expensive car on the lot could carry high ownership costs or be poorly suited to the buyer’s needs. Our Best Car for the Money award winners prioritize long-term value and a rewarding ownership experience, with comfort, features and performance that buyers will appreciate.”
The brand with the most wins this year: Hyundai, earning four Best Car for the Money awards.
“Hyundai continues to offer customers a wide-array of products that meet and exceed customer expectations,” said Olabisi Boyle, vice president, product planning and mobility strategy, Hyundai Motor North America. “Leading the industry for the most awards by U.S. News & World Report for their 2023 Best Cars for the Money competition, is a tribute to the high level of content, features and technology we include within our products at an attainable price-point.”
Hyundai's sibling Kia wasn't far behind, earning three awards. Chevrolet and Honda each won two awards and Mazda took home one.
When it comes to specific makes, the Honda Odyssey earned its seventh award. The Honda Civic can now claim four Best Compact Car wins and the Hyundai Kona and Santa Fe both earned awards for the third time in their respective categories. The Hyundai Elantra Hybrid is the Best Hybrid Car for the second time.
Vehicles winning awards for the first time: the Chevrolet Bolt and Bolt EUV, as well as the Hyundai Palisade, Kia K5, Kia Rio, Kia Sportage Hybrid and Mazda CX-5.
