Well done Subaru! Over 52,000 shelter pets found homes during the automaker's annual "Subaru Loves Pets" month last October, setting a record according to the automaker. Subaru credits the support of over 600 Subaru retailers and partner shelters nationwide and also says the campaign netted more than $1.8 million in participating retailer donations to hundreds of local shelters, rescues, and pet organizations that helps support the care of animals across the country.
"Subaru is dedicated to supporting animals in need, including helping to unite thousands of shelter pets with their forever homes nationwide every October, " said Alan Bethke, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Subaru of America, Inc. "Achieving over 52,000 pet adoptions in a single month would not have been possible without the support of our committed retailers, compassionate shelter partners, and everyone who embraced pet ownership in October."
Along with hosting adoption events in partnership with local animal shelters, Subaru says its participating retailers donated $100 to their partner shelter for every pet adopted during the month of October. Subaru says it also contributed $20 to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) for each purchase of select Subaru Pet-Friendly Accessories and for each "Animal" badge ordered through Subaru Badge of Ownership in October, Subaru donated $1 to the ASPCA.

Another part of the annual campaign is Subaru's annual #MakeADogsDay on October 22. The national holiday created by Subaru advocated for special needs dogs, those that are older and physically challenged. It also encourages dog lovers to do something special for their canine companions.
Subarus says over the course of the four year program, it along with participating retailers have supported the adoption of more than 157,000 shelter pets. But Subaru's focus on helping pets goes back a lot farther than that. The automaker says since 2008, it's positively impacted over 480,000 animals through a variety of adoption initiatives, plus donated over $52 million to national and local pet organizations.
