Statement by American Honda Regarding Power Window Master Switch Recall: 2002-2006 Honda CR-V

December 15, 2020 TORRANCE, Calif.

  • Approximately 268,000 vehicles are affected in the United States
  • Power window master switches will be replaced, for free
  • No reported injuries; 16 fires have been reported related to this issue

Honda will voluntarily recall approximately 268,000 model-year 2002-2006 CR-V vehicles in the United States to replace the power window master switch. Under certain conditions, rainwater or other spilled liquids may enter through an open drivers window and enter the power window master switch on the drivers door. Over time, exposure to water and other fluids can cause electrical resistance in the switch, which ultimately can cause the switch to overheat and melt, damaging the switch and potentially damaging an associated wire harness. Additionally, if a switch melts, it could produce smoke and potentially cause a fire, increasing the risk to motor vehicle safety.

Honda conducted a prior recall of the power window master switches in these vehicles beginning in Oct. 2012, calling for repair of the switch rather than replacement. The new recall, which supersedes the prior one, is in response to moisture-related failures of switches repaired under the previous action. No injuries have been reported related to this issue, but there have been 16 reported switch fires subsequent to earlier recall repairs.

Honda is announcing this recall to encourage each owner of an affected vehicle to take it to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda. Mailed notification to owners will begin in late-Jan. 2021. Owners can also determine if their specific vehicles are included in the recall by visiting www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.

Statement by American Honda Regarding Body Control Module Recall: 2018-2020 Honda Accord, 2018-2020 Honda Accord Hybrid and 2019-2020 Honda Insight.

December 15, 2020 TORRANCE, Calif.

  • Approximately 737,000 vehicles are affected in the United States
  • BCM software will be updated, for free
  • No reported crashes or injuries related to this issue

Honda will voluntarily recall approximately 737,000 model-year 2018-2020 Accord and Accord Hybrid vehicles along with 2019-2020 Insight vehicles in the United States to update software in the Body Control Module (BCM). Due to a programming flaw, a certain combination of driver actions and vehicle conditions may disrupt communication between the BCM and other components, causing illumination of several warning lights and malfunction of one or more electronic components including the rear view camera display, turn signals and windshield wipers, some potentially increasing the risk of a crash. This condition may also result in noncompliance with certain federal motor vehicle safety standards. Honda has received no reports of crashes or injuries related to this issue.

Statement by American Honda Regarding Left and Right Front Drive Shaft Recalls

December 15, 2020 TORRANCE, Calif.

  • Approximately 430,000 Acura and Honda vehicles are included in separate left and right front drive shaft recalls in 22 salt belt states of the U.S., plus Washington D.C.
  • Drive shafts will be inspected and, if needed, replaced, for free
  • No reported crashes or injuries related to this issue

American Honda will conduct two voluntary recalls affecting approximately 430,000 Acura and Honda vehicles in 22 salt belt states and the District of Columbia in the United States to inspect and, if needed, replace their left and/or right front drive shafts, for free. Both recalls are in response to possible breakage of the drive shafts due to corrosion caused by a combination of potentially damaged or incorrectly cured protective coatings during driveshaft assembly and long-term exposure to road salt primarily used in the northeastern United States. If a drive shaft breaks, it may cause a loss of motive power or allow the vehicle to roll while in the parking gear if the parking brake is not activated, both increasing the risk of a crash or injury. No crashes or injuries have been reported in relation to either condition.

The recalls will apply to vehicles that were originally sold or ever registered in these 22 states and the District of Columbia, where road salt is regularly used in the winter: CT, DC, DE, IL, IN, IA, KY, ME, MD, MA, MI, MN, MO, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, VT, VI, WV, WI.

At the time of this announcement, repair parts are not available for all vehicles involved in these recalls. Therefore, initial mailed notifications, beginning in early-Feb 2021 may inform certain vehicle owners of the recall and advise them to await later notification before seeking inspection and repair. American Honda encourages each owner of an affected vehicle to take it to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification that an inspection and potential repair is available for their vehicle. Owners can also determine if their specific vehicles are included in the recall and will later require inspection by visiting www.recalls.honda.com or www.recalls.acura.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.

  • 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid
  • 2007-2014 Honda Fit
  • 2013-2015 Acura ILX
