Weekly Recalls: Hyundai Tucson Expanded Recall, Park SUVs Outdoors Until Repaired; Volvo

SERIOUS HYUNDAI TUCSON RECALL

Hyundai has added 471,000 SUVs to a September 2020 U.S. recall for an electrical short in a computer that could cause fires. Hyundai is warning owners to park the SUVs outdoors until they are repaired.

Hyundai says that the recall comes as part of a continuing investigation into the issue. The company said it is aware of a dozen fires, but so far no injuries related to the recalled vehicles.

The latest recall covers certain model-year: 2016 through 2018, and additional 2020 through 2021, Hyundai Tucson SUVs. The vehicles being recalled have antilock brake system computers that can malfunction internally and cause an electrical short. That can lead to a fire even if the vehicle is parked and the engine is turned off, hence the advisory not to park in your garage.

Tucsons equipped with Hyundai�s Smart Cruise Control feature are not being recalled.

Owners will be notified in late February to take their SUVs to a Hyundai dealer, which will replace a fuse on the computer. You can enter your vehicle identification number at http:www.hyundaiUSA.com/recalls to see if your vehicle is affected.

In September of 2020, Hyundai recalled about 180,000 Tucson SUVs in the U.S. from 2019 through 2021 to fix the same problem. The company says corrosion can cause a short circuit in defective anti-lock brake circuit boards.

VOLVO

Summary

Volvo Cars USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2021 Volvo V60, V60 Cross Country, V90, V90 Cross Country, XC60, and XC90 vehicles. The Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) control unit may not have been properly attached to the car body and may detach during a crash.

Remedy

Volvo Car will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, tighten the SRS control unit mounting screws, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin February 19, 2021. Owners may contact Volvo Car customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo Car's number for this recall is R10068.
