**TOYOTA**
This is an expanded recall first announced in July 2023. The recall initially included 110,000 vehicles but has now expanded to 153,000.
PLANO, Texas (Oct. 10, 2023) – Toyota is expanding a previously announced non-compliance safety recall in the U.S. to include an additional approximately 43,000 2023 model year Toyota Corolla, Corolla Cross, Corolla Cross hybrid, Highlander, Highlander hybrid, and Tacoma vehicles. The total number of vehicles now being recalled is approximately 153,000 vehicles in the U.S. (Please note: No additional Lexus vehicles are included in the expansion.)
In the affected vehicles, the spiral cable assembly in the steering column may lose its electrical connection on the circuit controlling the driver’s airbag. If this occurs, the airbag warning light will illuminate, and the driver’s airbag may not deploy in a crash. As a result, the vehicle will not comply with certain federal motor vehicle safety requirements and may increase the risk of injury to the driver in the event of a crash.
For all involved vehicles, Toyota and Lexus dealers will inspect the serial number of the spiral cable and, if necessary, replace it with a new cable at no cost to customers. Toyota notified owners originally involved in this recall in early September 2023. Toyota will notify newly affected owners about this issue by early November 2023.
Information about automotive recalls, including but not limited to the list of involved vehicles, is current as of today’s filing date and is subject to change thereafter.
