Well, who knew. Nevada is the state with the most sports cars on the road. This, according to iSeeCars.com. Nevada tops its Ranking of States By Shares of Sports Cars, followed up by Arizona and Florida. California and Texas, don't worry, you round out the top five states with the highest share of sports cars on the road.
States With The Most Sports Cars
iSeeCars.com researchers say that due to cost and the "impracticality'" of sports cars, owning one is a reality for just 2.5 percent of U.S. drivers. Its researchers analyzed over 200,000 vehicle sales to determine which states have the most and least sports cars on the road - as well as which sports car is most popular by state.
Here's a look a the Top 10 states by share of sports cars on the road:
- Nevada - 4.0%
- Arizona - 3.6%
- Florida - 3.5%
- California - 3.3%
- Texas - 3.2%
- Georgia - 3.0%
- New Mexico - 2.9%
- North Carolina - 2.9%
- South Carolina - 2.8%
- Alabama - 2.7%
Unsurprisingly, the study found that states with the most sports cars typically have moderate climates. States with harsh winters had the least sports cars. (Think Northern, Rocky Mountain, and Midwestern states.)
Most Popular Sports Cars By State
As for the most popular sports cars on the road - the Dodge Challenger comes in No. 1 in the iSeeCars analysis, followed by the Ford Mustang:
- The Dodge Challenger is the most popular sports car in 36 states, while the Ford Mustang is the most popular in the remaining 14.
- Both the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger are among the most affordable sports cars. New versions start at less than $30,000, which iSeeCars says broadens their appeal.
- The Dodge Challenger is one of the only sports cars to offer all-wheel drive, and is the most popular sports car mainly among Northern and mountainous states.
