Dear CarPro Family

HAPPY Father’s Day to all you Dads in Car Pro land!  I hope you have a wonderful day Sunday and get all the attention and love you deserve.  Enjoy our special tribute to you below.  As a Dad who lost his only child, I reflect on fond memories on Father’s Day with my son for the 30 years we celebrated together.

It is a car review extravaganza for you today!  Count them, FOUR very different car reviews await you.  I had the hot and rare 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse with a 5-liter V8 and a six-speed manual.  Also, an SUV I fell in love with, the 2025 Mazda CX-70 plug-in hybrid 5-passenger SUV.  I also had the 2024 Nissan Ariya all-electric SUV, and finish off with the redesigned 2024 Ford Ranger XLT Crew Cab.

We have a lot of other interesting info for you today, don’t miss any of it!  The Feds have relaxed the future fuel economy cars must achieve, likely due to the cool off in electric vehicle interest.  This is verified by a new AAA survey on consumer EV interest you’ll find below in a separate story, and it is not good news for Elon Musk.  Also below, I give you the news headlines from the past week regarding electrics.

If you are tall, I have a terrific list of 28 categories of SUVs that will fit you best!  Tires are more likely to fail in summer than any other time of year, so protect yourself and your family by learning about tire safety!  Hats off to our friends at Jeep. They were once again named the most patriotic brand in America.  Plus, a story that warmed my heart about a dog that traveled 4 miles to tell his family that his Dad had been in a car accident and alerted them to call for help.  Give that puppy a treat!

Don’t miss Kim Komando’s very useful Tips of the Week. She had a lot of really great ones this week, and as always, I encourage you to subscribe to her terrific and very useful newsletter that you’ll get seven days a week.  Last Saturday, I talked about the good memories I had as a kid looking at the JC Whitney catalogGood news, they are back and I have the info for you below!

In advice today, as promised last week, I have advice on dealing with an insurance adjuster.  This is critical right now if your car is totaled or stolen and not recovered.  This article from my FAQ page has made listeners thousands of dollars since I wrote it.

We have another True Story from a Former Car Dealer below.  This is a series of 40 stories written by me.  Some are really funny, some are incredibly sad.  I really peel back the curtain on my career highs and lows in the car business, and also share a lot of personal information.  I hope you’ll take a minute and read these each week, I truly believe you’ll enjoy them. #24 is titled: Dick.  This is the story of a salesperson in my younger days named Dick Ryan. It was my first position as a manager, and Dick taught me a lot about the car business, and about life.

Plus, lots of other information you will enjoy, including our videos of the week we talk about on the air all the time!  If you have never been to our FAQ page, take a minute and peruse the categories, something there will interest you for sure.

You’ll find the following stories and more info as you scroll down the newsletter:

CarPro Advice: Dealing With An Insurance Adjustor

As promised in last week’s newsletter, this week I tell you how to deal with an insurance adjuster.  Of all the articles I have written for my FAQ page, the one about diminished value, and this one have made my listeners the most money.  It is crucial right now due to the sky-high used car values.  Insurance companies are not up to speed on this by any stretch.

Kim Komando's Useful Tips Of The Week

Besides the Car Pro Show and our weekly newsletter, my other favorite radio show and newsletter is Kim Komando’s.  We are on many of the same radio stations across America.  She does for her listeners and newsletter subscribers exactly what I endeavor to do:  Give you useful information to keep you up to date on the latest in cars, only she does it with technology and there is nobody who does it better.  Not sure how she puts out a top-notch newsletter seven days a week, but she does.

I reached out to her and asked if it would be OK to share information with you once a week with a tech tip, and she agreed.  I read her daily newsletter from top to bottom, and when I see info I think you could use, I will put it here to try to make life just a little better for you.

Here are some various tips I picked up from Kim’s newsletter this week I hope you find as useful as I did:

  • Add to cart: If you’re buying something online, try my go-to trick to save money. Add it to your cart, start the checkout process (including putting in your email address), then close the site. Give it a day or two, and you’ll probably get a coupon sent to your inbox.
  • Hi, you: Old voicemails can be particularly nostalgic when you’re missing someone. Make sure you save yours the right way. I did this with old messages from Mom.
  • Save AM radio: Automakers want to get rid of AM radio in cars. That’s a huge mistake. Here’s how you can help save it.
  • Cash in ASAP: Deadlines for these class-action lawsuits are coming up fast. See if you’re eligible, and get the money you’re owed.
  • Save some cash: If you’re trying to get a handle on all your streaming services and other subscriptions, use Rocket Money.* It helped me save $532 a year by canceling services I wasn’t using and had forgotten about. So smart!
  • Is it spam? Reader Ron S. in Gilbert, Arizona, dropped me a note with a reminder about a super-helpful site if you’re worried a link is suspicious. Google analyzes billions of URLs every day and adds spammy ones to a list. Paste a link in here to see if it’s been flagged.

True Stories From A Former Car Dealer

dickA few years ago, I started writing a series of True Stories From A Former Car Dealer.  Over 40 weeks, I wrote about experiences I had from my days as a dealership owner.  Some will make you laugh, others will make you cry.  The reaction was beyond my wildest expectations.

For our new subscribers, and for those of you who may have missed one or perhaps simply forgotten the details, we’ll bring these to you in the order they were written.

In this episode, I tell you about a gentleman I hired right after I got my first job as a manager in a dealership.  Dick was a friend and mentor and was someone I had a lot of admiration for.  Through the years, literally thousands of salespeople worked for me,  but probably none influenced me as much as Dick Ryan.

  Sell Your Car Through GiveMeTheVin!

givemethevinlogoAs I say on the air, a car is only worth what someone is willing to write a check for, and KBB doesn't write checks. I have set up an affiliation with an online car buying service called Give MeTheVIN.com that DOES write checks - and you'll get a firm offer in under two minutes.

The process is simple:  Put your vehicle info in a www.GiveMeTheVIN.com/CarPro. That alerts them you are a listener of mine.

**STRONG LANGUAGE WARNING**

I’ve brought you a lot of police chases through the years, but for me, this is the scariest yet for the police officer.  In this 3-minute video, the Forest Park, Georgia police were looking for a murder suspect.  An officer spots the man and the chase was on, at extreme speeds going the wrong direction on a highway.  The chase ends in a fiery crash, but the suspect lived and was arrested.  I did not actually hear any foul language, but the closed captioning picked a word up, so I wanted to warn you.

Today's cell phones have come a long way since the 1st one. In April 50 years ago the inventor of the hand-held cell phone, Marty Cooper of Motorola, made the first cell phone call from a street in NYC to his chief competitor at Bell Labs. (It was very brief).

He used the 2.5 lb. "brick" that went on sale to the public for $3,995 dollars. You can watch that call here. Still think iPhones are too pricey?
