May 3, 2024

Dear CarPro Family,

Welcome to the month of May, one of the months car dealers love.  It’s a long month, the weather is generally pleasant, they get to celebrate their Mothers, and the month ends with a major holiday.  What more could you want?

We are giving away a beautiful 2024 Chevy Corvette and $10,000 in cash to pay tax, title, and license to some lucky listener!  Best of all, this wonderful charity helps our Veterans find healing and a sense of gratitude and community, which they so deserve.  Details are below on how to buy chances to win for just $10.

Most everybody has had his or her check engine light come on at one time or another. I have for you the top causes and how much it costs to fix them. Are you curious about the electric car incentives in California and Texas?  I have them all below, but there is a huge difference between the two states.  You’ll want to read how to find out if a one dollar bill in your pocket could be worth $150,000.  Oh yes, I have that for you, too.  We say goodbye to the Subaru Legacy and hello to the new Ram 1500 RHO pickup below.

We have an all-new feature that we’ll bring you every week!  Kim Komando’s Tech Tip of the Week.  We’ll give you her best tip about something to do with computers, or cell phones, or anything techy.  I really think you’ll enjoy them, she does a great job!  I suggest, too, you sign up for her weekly newsletter.

In my review this week, I have a cool retro pickup, the 2024 Nissan Frontier Hardbody Edition 4x4 Crew Cab. Our Amy Plemons has two very different reviews for you, the sporty 2024 Mazda3 Turbo sedan and the off-road capable 2024 Honda Passport TrailSport.

In advice today, I have tips for our graduating College Seniors as they make their way into the world, most likely with a new car.  We don’t want them getting a bad start, so I can help with that.

We have another True Story from a Former Car Dealer below.  This is a series of 40 stories written by me.  Some are really funny, some are incredibly sad.  I really peel back the curtain on my career highs and lows in the car business, and also share a lot of personal information.  I hope you’ll take a minute and read these each week, I truly believe you’ll enjoy them. #18 is titled: Lemons. When I owned dealerships, I involved myself with a customer who bought a bad diesel Ford, and stuck my nose right in the middle of it.  Guess what?  I didn’t even sell it to the guy!  Sounds like a setup for a happy ending, right?  Not so much.

You’ll find the following stories and more info as you scroll down the newsletter:

national-final-may3-rundownplus-may-3-canvapro

Plus, lots of other information you will enjoy!  If you have never been to our FAQ page, take a minute and peruse the categories, something there will interest you for sure.

We so appreciate all of you who take this newsletter and listen to the show every week.  We know that without you, there is no CarPro Radio Show.  So always let us know when we can help you. If you have not been there lately, take a look at our website, www.carpro.com, it changes all the time!

Have a terrific week.  See you on the radio!

New Feature: Kim Komando's Tech Tip of the Week!

kim-komando-graphic

Besides the Car Pro Show and our weekly newsletter, my other favorite radio show and newsletter is Kim Komando’s. We are on many of the same radio stations across America. She does for her listeners and newsletter subscribers exactly what I endeavor to do: Give you useful information to keep you up to date on the latest in cars, only she does it with technology and there is nobody who does it better. Not sure how she puts out a top-notch newsletter seven days a week, but she does. I reached out to her and asked if it would be OK to share information with you once a week with a tech tip, and she agreed. I read her daily newsletter from top to bottom, and when I see info I think you could use, I will put it here to try to make life just a little better for you. This week, we’ll start with:

Scam and spam calls are getting more common, and they’re hard not to answer because the number comes up as “unknown.” When there’s no caller ID number, you can’t be sure if it’s a spam caller or an important call you’ve been waiting for.  Fortunately, there are ways to find out who’s calling you from an unknown or blocked number. We put together a helpful guide on finding an unknown caller number.

When mysterious phone calls clutter your call log, this phone number lookup trick helps you identify the unknown number calling your device. Follow these steps, and you won’t have to grimace when you look down at your phone and see that unknown number.

The first one is *69, which traces the number of the last person who called you. It works even for anonymous or hidden calls, so you can get the phone number and the exact time they called. Once you have that hidden phone number, you can block it on your phone, so it can’t call you anymore.

Another number you can use to trace a call is *57.  When you push *57, the information you obtain is passed along to the police. Your phone service will log a *57 call in a special way, so authorities can more easily locate whoever is harassing you and arrest them.

True Stories From A Former Car Dealer

lemonA few years ago, I started writing a series of True Stories From A Former Car Dealer.  Over 40 weeks, I wrote about experiences I had from my days as a dealership owner.  Some will make you laugh, others will make you cry.  The reaction was beyond my wildest expectations.

For our new subscribers, and for those of you who may have missed one or perhaps simply forgotten the details, we’ll bring these to you in the order they were written.

In this episode, I tell you about a Ford owner who was so upset with his truck, he had huge lemon stickers made and plastered them all over his truck.  This was well documented in the press, and although he didn’t buy the truck from my dealership, I reached out to him, got help from Ford, and got him into another new truck.  Happy story, right?  Not exactly.

  Sell Your Car Through GiveMeTheVin!

givemethevinlogoAs I say on the air, a car is only worth what someone is willing to write a check for, and KBB doesn't write checks. I have set up an affiliation with an online car buying service called Give MeTheVIN.com that DOES write checks - and you'll get a firm offer in under two minutes.

The process is simple:  Put your vehicle info in a www.GiveMeTheVIN.com/CarPro. That alerts them you are a listener of mine.

CarPro Radio Show host Jerry Reynolds can count the number of products he's endorsed on one hand. He's had many opportunities, but after much due diligence, he usually ends up saying no.

Jerry won’t recommend a product or service unless he's tried it himself and feels good about recommending it.

    Videos of the Week

Jerry YT Graphic-may-2-canvaproA guy goes for the world’s record longest jump record in a car.  Something went terribly wrong on the landing, but he may well have gotten the record for the most car flips instead.  What is amazing is all the camera angles you see, including a camera focused on the driver.  You would not have wanted to be a passenger in this one!

Lotsa fishin’ going on right now and for people who are fortunate enough to have a boat that means lots of the unenviable task of backing the boat down a ramp while keeping it in line. Well, this is one of the greatest boat ramp tips you’ll ever see---so says Barry Stokes, one of those TV fishing show guys. If it’s good enough for him, I figure it’s good enough for the rest of us so here it is. Good fishing!
