I truly hope all you Dads had a wonderful day last Sunday!  We have another newsletter just full of information for you today.  After four grueling reviews last week, I only have one for you this week, but Amy is bringing you two!

Even six months ago, I never thought I would see the day that used electric cars would sell for less than used gasoline vehicles, but we are here.  You can read all about it below.  Speaking of electric cars, so far this year, U.S. consumers have received one billion dollars upfront in payments from the federal government for purchasing electric vehicles.  Good use of taxpayer money, or no?  You be the judge!

In other stories, new cars continue to fall in price, I have the most stolen vehicles in America, details on the hot new 2025 Honda Civic, and if you have a Senior Citizen in your life, send them my Empowering Seniors video, hosted and narrated by your favorite Car Pro. Are you happy with your auto insurance?  If not, you are not alone.  Take a look at the J.D. Power survey on this subjectSalute to our friends at Hyundai Motor North America, they are helping to plant 300,000 more trees across North America.

Don’t miss Kim Komando’s very useful Tips of the Week. She had a lot of really great ones this week, and as always, I encourage you to subscribe to her terrific and very useful newsletter that you’ll get seven days a week.

In advice today, if you are taking a driving vacation this summer, for the safety of you and your family, please go through my checklist to make sure your vehicle is ready to hit the road.  In reviews, after the 500-horse Mustang Dark Horse, I have the 2024 Volvo V90 Cross Country station wagon, but I liked it!  Our Amy Plemons gives you a full review of the 2024 Genesis G70 3.3T sedan and the 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited.

We have another True Story from a Former Car Dealer below. This is a series of 40 stories written by me. Today,  #25 is titled: Auctions.  This is possibly my favorite story of my early days. I had just purchased my first dealership and was trying to stock my used car lot quickly by buying cars at auctions.  I remember it like it was yesterday, especially the day I bought a mobile x-ray equipped bus.  There are plenty of other funny stories in this one, my friends.

Plus, lots of other information you will enjoy, including our videos of the week we talk about on the air all the time!  If you have never been to our FAQ page, take a minute and peruse the categories, something there will interest you for sure:

You’ll find the following stories and more info as you scroll down the newsletter:

We so appreciate all of you who take this newsletter and listen to the show every week.  We know that without you, there is no Car Pro Radio Show.  So always let us know when we can help you. If you have not been there lately, take a look at our website, www.carpro.com, it changes all the time!

Have a terrific week.  See you on the radio!

 My Empowering Seniors Video

Jerry-empowering-seniors-video

I was invited to join a group of other local celebrities, media folk, and sports figures a few years ago for an annual event called Empowering Seniors. I shared some advice for seniors on a number of automotive topics.

If you are a senior citizen, I hope you will take a moment and watch the video.  If you have senior parents, relatives, or friends that this may help, please pass the video on to them.  It could be very helpful, and it could be a life saver.

Kim Komando's Useful Tips Of The Week

Besides the Car Pro Show and our weekly newsletter, my other favorite radio show and newsletter is Kim Komando’s.  We are on many of the same radio stations across America.  She does for her listeners and newsletter subscribers exactly what I endeavor to do:  Give you useful information to keep you up to date on the latest in cars, only she does it with technology and there is nobody who does it better.  Not sure how she puts out a top-notch newsletter seven days a week, but she does.

I reached out to her and asked if it would be OK to share information with you once a week with a tech tip, and she agreed.  I read her daily newsletter from top to bottom, and when I see info I think you could use, I will put it here to try to make life just a little better for you.

Here are some various tips I picked up from Kim’s newsletter this week I hope you find as useful as I did:

  • That’s a wrap: Ever wonder about wrapping your luggage in plastic before a flight? The TSA says it's not worth the $30. If they want to see inside your bag, they’ll cut through the plastic and won’t rewrap it. Get a TSA-approved luggage lock instead.
  • Stop paying for things you don’t use: It might sound counterintuitive, but with many streaming services, you can cancel immediately after subscribing (or let Rocket Money* do it for you!) and still enjoy the entire trial period. Just check their policy first. Perfect for when there’s one movie on your to-watch list.
  • Before you hit the road: Download directions so you can navigate if cell service cuts out. Open the Google Maps app and search for your destination’s name. On Android, swipe up. On iOS, swipe to the end of the options. Tap Download to save an offline map you can access at any time.
  • The ad-friendly skies: Fly United and you’ll soon see personalized ads in the app and on the back of your seat. Just one more way to make money off you. But since you get this free newsletter, here’s where you can opt out of the ads. You’re welcome.
  • Add to cart: If you’re buying something online, try my go-to trick to save money. Add it to your cart, start the checkout process (including putting in your email address), then close the site. Give it a day or two, and you’ll probably get a coupon sent to your inbox.
  • Hi, you: Old voicemails can be particularly nostalgic when you’re missing someone. Make sure you save yours the right way. I did this with old messages from Mom.

True Stories From A Former Car Dealer

auction-true-stories-shutterstock-578570983-1-1404x1112A few years ago, I started writing a series of True Stories From A Former Car Dealer.  Over 40 weeks, I wrote about experiences I had from my days as a dealership owner.  Some will make you laugh, others will make you cry.  The reaction was beyond my wildest expectations.

For our new subscribers, and for those of you who may have missed one or perhaps simply forgotten the details, we’ll bring these to you in the order they were written.

In this episode, I tell you about things that happened, both good and bad, when I bought my first car dealership at 29 years of age and needed a bunch of used cars quickly.  As I say on the radio, you can make serious mistakes at auctions, and as you’ll read, I did.  Many of my purchases turned out well, including a mobile x-ray bus.

  Sell Your Car Through GiveMeTheVin!

givemethevinlogoAs I say on the air, a car is only worth what someone is willing to write a check for, and KBB doesn't write checks. I have set up an affiliation with an online car buying service called Give MeTheVIN.com that DOES write checks - and you'll get a firm offer in under two minutes.

The process is simple:  Put your vehicle info in a www.GiveMeTheVIN.com/CarPro. That alerts them you are a listener of mine.

   Videos of the Week

jerry-yt-graphic-june-20

Maybe you can figure out what went wrong here.  In this just over 30-second video, a Jeep tries to go up a snowy hill and doesn’t make it.  OK, no big deal.  Seconds later, not one, not two, but THREE Jeeps are wrecked, and people almost got run over.  Bad driver?  Medical emergency?  Vehicle malfunction? You be the judge!

When something goes really, really, wrong people might call it a "trainwreck".

This video is full of REAL trainwrecks along with some idiot car & truck drivers.
