November 15, 2024

Dear Car Pro Family,

Many thanks to all who reached out to us to say they appreciated our Tribute To Veterans on last weekend’s Car Pro Show.  I hope all our Veteran listeners and subscribers had a wonderful day Monday.  Once again, thank you sincerely for your service to America.  We owe all our freedoms to you.

Please see below for a special radio programming alert for tomorrow. We will not be live in Los Angeles like usual, but you can still join us for the show, and KNX listeners, you can still call the show, we’ll be there!  We will likely have phone lines open without L.A. so try to get through no matter where you are listening from.  Everything you need to know is below.

Screen Shot 2024-11-14 at 6.04.58 PMWe start today with a story that I didn’t see coming:  Nissan is making some very severe cuts and is selling part of its stake in MitsubishiI give you my take on these drastic measures.  The J.D. Power automaker sales satisfaction survey is below, and this is the big one:  the one all car companies strive for.  There were some surprises, at least for me.  If you’ve waited to get a Jeep Wagoneer or Grand Wagoneer, good news for you:  For 2025, the prices are dropping $3,000 to $7,000.

EV makers Rivian & Lucid had a rough 3rd quarter combining to lose 2 billion dollars, story below.  Also below, I give you the fastest and slowest selling vehicles in America.  I’ll tell you all about a police cruiser you don’t want to try to run from, and don’t miss Kevin’s Famous Recipes with Thanksgiving coming.  As a bonus, we tell you how to safely transport your dinner to Grandma’s house.

Be sure to check out our all new Car Pro Merchandise and don’t miss Kim Komando’s tech tips and other tech information.  Self-employed and business owners, our annual guide to Tax Code 179 is below and time is running out to save you tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars.

In advice today, we discuss leasing for young people, something to consider for your kids. If you have not purchased any raffle tickets to win a custom 1974 Bronco or $150,000, consider it since it is all for charity.

Screen Shot 2024-11-14 at 6.07.28 PMIn reviews, I have a REALLY big truck to show you, the 2025 GMC 2500 Denali Ultimate with the Duramax diesel under its big hood.  What a beast this is!  Our Amy Plemons reviews the 2025 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Limited AWD and also brings us a first look at the new 2025 Ram 1500 Limited.

Plus, a TON of other information and news you will enjoy, including my video of the week we talk about on the air all the time!  If you have never been to our FAQ page, take a minute and peruse the categories, something there will interest you for sure:

You’ll find the following stories and more info as you scroll down the newsletter:

We so appreciate all of you who take this newsletter and listen to the show every week.  We know that without you, there is no Car Pro Radio Show.  So always let us know when we can help you. If you have not been there lately, take a look at our website, www.carpro.com, it changes all the time!

Have a terrific week.  See you on the radio!

Screen Shot 2024-11-14 at 5.53.07 PMWe will not be on the air tomorrow, November 16, 2024 on KNX due to a football game they are obligated to air.  However, you can still join us by clicking LISTEN LIVE at CarPro.com from 9 AM Pacific/11 AM Central all the way to Noon Pacific/2 PM Central.  You can play us on your smart phone, and if you have to go somewhere, put us on the Bluetooth in your car!  Worst case, the podcast will be up at 12:30 Pacific for all 3 hours:

With fewer calls from Los Angeles likely, our friends in other markets will have a better chance of getting through!  Usually, the phone lines are jammed for all 3 hours, so if you’ve tried before and haven’t gotten through, this is your chance.  Store the phone number in your phone:

Thank you for your patience, we hate when this happens, too.  We’ll be back with you soon!

Nissan Sells Part of Mitsubishi; Cuts Jobs

nissan-cuts-staff-credit-nissan-global

Our top story this week: Nissan's financial crisis. The automaker recently shared that it's "facing a severe situation" and "taking urgent measures to turnaround its performance and create a leaner, more resilient business capable of swiftly adapting to changes in the market."   The admission follows a decline in global sales for the first half of the 2024 fiscal year.  As a result, Nissan is cutting jobs and production. It also announced separately that is selling some of its stake in Mitsubishi.

MY TAKE:

As someone who watches the auto industry every single day, car companies making strategic moves never comes as a surprise.  However, drastic, severe changes like at Nissan always come as a bit of a shock.  I assume the situation at Nissan was more dire than I expected, OR they are being hyper-proactive, one of the two.  Either way, if the plans the company announced last week come to fruition, Nissan will be a much smaller car company.  I could be wrong, and this is pure speculation, but I wonder if Nissan isn’t looking at Mazda, wanting to be more like them.

  Startling Texas Driving Statistic

24 years.

That's how long it's been since Texas had a fatality free day on its roadways. Last week, on the anniversary of the last deathless day on Nov. 7, 2000, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) launched a joint campaign to help #EndthestreakTX.  DPS troopers will be handing out tip cards during traffic stops to encourage safe driving behaviors.

TxDOT is also sharing the story of 18-year-old Aspen Blessing who was killed by a drunk driver in March of 2024 in Callahan County, near Abilene, Texas. Her family is partnering with TxDOT to help prevent other families from suffering a similar tragedy.

   Kim Komando Special Report

I'm a big fan of consumer-technology advice guru Kim Komando. She also has her own radio show and we're on many of the sase radio stations across America. She does for her listeners and newsletter subscribers exactly what I endeavor to do: Give you useful information to keep you up to date on the latest in cars, only she does it with technology and there is nobody who does it better.

Here are some various tips & information I picked up from Kim’s newsletter this week I hope you find as useful as I did:new-kim-kommando-graphi

Little-known shipping secret: Did you know if you turn an Amazon shipping bag inside out, there’s a strip you can pull to reseal it for returns? Now stop being lazy and send back that itchy sweater.

Search upgrades: This trick works in Google or your favorite search engine. Use an asterisk (*) to fill in for a word you don’t know, like “Midnight * to Georgia.” If there’s a word you want to keep out of your search, put a minus sign (-) in front of it. “Kim tech tips -Kardashian” means you won’t see the other Kim K. in your results.

Job scam warning: Retailers and shipping companies are hiring in droves ahead of the holidys. UPS, Amazon, FedEx, Target and all the rest are looking for folks, but they won’t make initial contact with you via email or text. Go to a potential employer’s website and find the “Careers” section to apply directly.

Count: All the ways you’ve handed info over to Google. On this dashboard, you’ll see everything from the number of emails you’ve gotten over the years to how many of your passwords are in Chrome.

Did you vote? In many states, that’s public information, but you have to file a request or pay a fee to obtain it. A new website, VoteRef, allows anyone to look up your name, address, age, party affiliation and whether you voted. Not all state info is there … yet. This feels like harassment just waiting to happen.

Our 2024 Tax Code 179 Guide Is Here!

tax-code-guide-graphic-2024

Friends, we have been publishing the latest rules and eligible vehicles list for Tax Code 179 for over a decade. Many of you wait until the last minute to make your purchase. I encourage you to reach out to one of our Certified CarPro Friends at a CarPro approved dealership NOW. They will help you figure out how to get the eligible vehicle you want by the end of the year, or worst case, have a VIN so you can complete the paperwork by December 31, 2024.
