October 11, 2024

Dear Car Pro Family,

I hope all is well and that perhaps a hint of fall is in your air.  As I told you on the Car Pro Show last Saturday, the incentives for October were a real shocker they were so good.  Just a reminder, our Incentive Section below is always your go-to to find out what free money you can get from the automakers.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the people in Florida as they grapple with the second major hurricane in as many weeks.  We are not on the air there anymore, but still have lots of podcast and live listeners through our website, and many newsletter subscribers.  We wish you a safe and speedy recovery.  Many of you will be replacing cars and I encourage you to spend some time at my FAQ page if you find yourself needing help.  Also, if your car does get totaled, be sure to read my FAQ article on dealing with an insurance adjuster, they’ll want to close claims quickly and mistakes will be made.

We kick off today with a public feud between Stellantis and the UAWI have some commentary on this, along with what the automaker had to say to the UAW President, and then Stellantis filed a lawsuit against them.  This will be one to watch in the coming weeks.  I have a summary of the 3rd quarter auto sales, and you’ll see that car payments are up, and the loan terms are longer.  This is a bad combination for the future.

Ford debuted the new 2025 Expedition last week here in Dallas, and you have to see this beauty!  Speaking of big SUVs, the very first electric Cadillac Escalade IQ is being auctioned this weekend at Barrett Jackson Scottsdale and I have the TV schedule for you.  It is the time of year where people have to really look out for animals, especially deer. I have good info for you on this below. Also, a new study finds that big in-vehicle screens and functionality appeal to young families and multitaskers.

Be sure to check out our all new Car Pro Merchandise and don’t miss Kim Komando’s very useful Tips of the Week. She had a lot of really great ones this week, and as always, I encourage you to subscribe to her terrific and very useful newsletter that you’ll get seven days a week.

In advice today, I walk you through the very different roles played by automakers and dealers.  People seem to think a dealer and the manufacturer are the same and this simply isn’t true. Self-employed and business owners, our annual guide to Tax Code 179 is below and it could save you tens of thousands of dollars.

In reviews, I have the all-new 2024 Chevy Traverse RS 3-row SUV. Our Amy Plemons brings you a full review of the 2025 Mazda CX-70, a bigger-than-usual 5-passenger SUV with a lot of room inside.  She has the Turbo S Premium Plus model, and it’s a beauty!

Plus, lots of other information you will enjoy, including our videos of the week we talk about on the air all the time!  If you have never been to our FAQ page, take a minute and peruse the categories, something there will interest you for sure.

You’ll find the following stories and more info as you scroll down the newsletter:

national-2-1
contents-page-2-oct-11

We so appreciate all of you who take this newsletter and listen to the show every week.  We know that without you, there is no Car Pro Radio Show.  So always let us know when we can help you. If you have not been there lately, take a look at our website, www.carpro.com, it changes all the time!

Have a terrific week.  See you on the radio!

 Stellantis VS UAW:  My Commentary

photo-stellantis-auburn-hills-credit-stellantis

A contentious battle between Stellantis and the United Auto Workers just keeps getting uglier. It stems from the UAW's threat to strike mid-contract over Stellantis' recent product plan changes, which impact manufacturing.  I'll explain what's happening, my thoughts on the subject and share a message to UAW President Shawn Fain, below:

Kim Komando's Useful Tips & Info of the Week

Besides the Car Pro Show and our weekly newsletter, my other favorite radio show and newsletter is Kim Komando’s. We are on many of the same radio stations across America. She does for her listeners and newsletter subscribers exactly what I endeavor to do: Give you useful information to keep you up to date on the latest in cars, only she does it with technology and there is nobody who does it better. Not sure how she puts out a top-notch newsletter seven days a week, but she does.

Here are some various tips & information I picked up from Kim’s newsletter this week I hope you find as useful as I did:graphics CarPro-4

  • Another wayward Waymo: A San Francisco woman was trapped in an autonomous Waymo cab when two men stood in front of the car and wouldn’t move. Why? They wanted her phone number. She told them no, but the cab wouldn’t budge, leaving her stuck until they finally walked away. Waymo’s response? She got a free ride.
  • Red tape tragedy: A U.S. government agency has one of the most accurate hurricane forecasting models, but because of a contract with a private company, that data is locked down until 2025. Hurricane Helene just left an 800-mile trail of destruction, killing at least 130 people. It’s ridiculous they’re withholding lifesaving info when we taxpayers are footing the bill.
  • $575,000 stolen Ferrari found, thanks to a pair of AirPods. Thieves took the car in Greenwich, Connecticut. Luckily, the owner had left a pair of AirPods inside, and police tracked the stolen ride down at a gas station. They pulled over the suspects, who then fled the scene.
  • Big Brother is watching: License plate reader systems were once used to track stolen cars and gather insurance data. Now, they’re snapping pics of political signs, abortion-rights bumper stickers and clothing with text. Millions of pics are uploaded every month to massive, searchable databases with precise locations for each image. Wild.
  • That was close: Security researchers found a flaw in Kia's web portal. With just the license plate number and VIN, someone could hack in and remotely unlock doors, honk the horn and even start the engine. The portal didn’t verify dealer-level privileges. Oops. Kia says they’ve patched the vulnerability.
  • Check your consumer report: It contains real estate transaction and ownership data; lien, judgment and bankruptcy records; professional license info; and addresses. Go to the LexisNexis Consumer Disclosure Report page and click Request a Consumer Disclosure Report Online. Fill out your name and address, then click Submit Request. The waiting is the hardest part.

  Jerry's Video of the Week

Jerry YT Graphic-Oct-10-2024-10-36-28-9652-PM

A woman in Georgia somehow had a rollover accident in a big Range Rover in a residential area. It caught on fire, and police officers did an outstanding job of putting out the fire, busting through the glass moon roof to remove her, and making sure she was out of danger. They got a big surprise, however, when they discovered she was hiding something between her legs.
