2024-cadillac-lyric-profile-featureSeptember 27, 2024

It is that time again!  The end of the month and the end of the 3rd quarter, and it all comes to a screeching halt Monday.  So do the shockingly good rebates and incentives.  In our lead story today, I tell you why this is a big deal and why it’s bargain time for car buyers!

This week I’ve been on the air as the Car Pro or the Car Guy for 23 consecutive years.  I didn’t make a thing about it, it didn’t seem appropriate with my Trusty Sidekick just retiring.  On the Car Pro Show tomorrow, I will introduce you to the man behind the voice that you’ll hear with me from this point on, and I give you some history on him and how we became associated.

Are you thinking about going electric with your next vehicle?  If so, I spent a lot of time laying out the pros and cons of electric vehicles below.  Feel free to share it with someone you know who is mulling this over.

Also below, did you know you can get all 3 of your credit reports every week for free?  The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says autonomous driving systems are a distraction.  Speaking of, you can soon sing karaoke in your Ford if you wish, and the Feds have fined an Austin-based company that makes emission defeat devices 2.9 million dollars.

Be sure to check out our all new Car Pro Merchandise at www.shop.carpro.com and don’t miss Kim Komando’s very useful Tips of the Week. She had a lot of really great ones this week, and as always, I encourage you to subscribe to her terrific and very useful newsletter that you’ll get seven days a week.

In advice today, I dispel a lot of those car dealer myths you’ve heard most of your life, others I confirm.  You need to know the truth, and I give it to you straight!  Self-employed and business owners, our annual guide to Tax Code 179 is below and it could save you tens of thousands of dollars.

In reviews, I have the beautiful 2024 Cadillac Lyriq all-electric luxury SUV.    Our Amy Plemons is tied up covering the State Fair of Texas Auto Show and the Texas Auto Writers’ Truck Rodeo event, the biggest event of the year for them.  Fear not, she’ll be back with another terrific car review next week!

WE ARE DOWN TO ONE True Story from a Former Car Dealer after today. This is a series of 40 stories written by me, and today, #39 is titled: Regrets.  We all have them, right?  I think perhaps I’ve had more than most and I get extremely personal in this story as I wind the series down.  I talk about the loss of my son B.J., failed and missed business opportunities, and a heartbreaking conversation with a victim of domestic violence.

Plus, lots of other information you will enjoy, including our videos of the week we talk about on the air all the time!  If you have never been to our FAQ page, take a minute and peruse the categories, something there will interest you for sure.

You’ll find the following stories and more info as you scroll down the newsletter:

We so appreciate all of you who take this newsletter and listen to the show every week.  We know that without you, there is no Car Pro Radio Show.  So always let us know when we can help you. If you have not been there lately, take a look at our website, www.carpro.com, it changes all the time!

Have a terrific week.  See you on the radio!

The End of the Month And Third Quarter: Bargain Time!

last-weekend-deals-canvapro-jan-26It is the end of the month this Monday, so time is running out on the amazing September incentives, and almost always, they drop at the beginning of any new quarter. The end of the third quarter of 2024 ends on that Monday also, so this is the last weekend of both!  Remember to check the incentive section below, it is there every week.  We have every incentive and the end date for every vehicle sold in America.

It’s no secret, the deals get better at month end, and when the quarter ends at the same time, it really gets good for consumers.  Automakers push the dealers for volume, and dealers do whatever it takes to make a deal.

As I discussed last week, used car values are still very high but who knows how long this will last?  There is really no logical reason the values have stayed this high this long.

Dealer lots are overfull of inventory (except Toyota/Lexus) that needs to go. This is more of a buyer’s market than we’ve seen since the summer of 2020.

Talk to one of my friends here:

After all, everybody needs a friend in the car business.

Meet My New Radio Show Partner Tomorrow!

imageAs I have told you several times, there can never be another Trusty Sidekick, that title belongs to Kevin McCarthy and always will.  However, I do need help with the radio show.  Five straight hours of talk radio is a long time especially when you are hyper-focused on making sure you give the very best possible answer.  Most of big time radio talk hosts only do three hours, and there is good reason for that.

Tomorrow on both shows, I will introduce you to Todd Chambless, whom you’ll hear with me every Saturday.  Like Kevin, Todd knows nothing about cars.  I’ve got that covered.  It is nice to have someone to bounce things off of and remind me of things I might have forgotten.

Although we’ll spend lots of time together on Saturdays, we’ve worked together weekly for close to 20 years.  You see, Todd is also the Car Pro Show Production Director.  He makes sure the commercials you hear on the show sound good and that they are the exact time down to the second that they are supposed to be.  We meet up every Thursday morning at WBAP, share a cup of Joe, and do 50 or so commercials and recordings together.

Todd has been an on-air personality, voice-over artist, producer, and radio programmer for 40 years now.  He is married to his wife Becca, whom I helped with car decisions long before they entered into marital bliss.  Through the years, Todd has also purchased or leased a lot of cars from Certified Dealers on the show.  When it comes to cars, unlike Kevin, he actually listens to me!

Todd expressed that he was looking forward to the opportunity to be a part of the Car Pro Show and helping me to help you!  Todd enjoys sunshine and convertible cars as long as they have an exceptional sound system.

I know the Car Pro Show audience will welcome Todd starting tomorrow and make him feel at home.  None of us like change but it is inevitable in life.  Will Todd be trusty, and will he be a great radio sidekick?  Absolutely.

Contemplating An EV? The Pros And Cons

jerry-taycan-6-1

As I shared on last week's Car Pro Show, I took the electric plunge and got an electric 2025 Porsche Taycan. It's a beauty, too! That's it pictured above.  If you've been considering making the move to go electric, there is a lot to consider. I've written an in-depth post about the Pros and Cons of EVs. The cons outweigh the pros, but no matter which way you're leaning, I give you a lot to think about before making the decision.

EPA Fines COBB Tuning Over Defeat Devices

shutterstock-judge-gavel

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Justice Department recently reached a settlement with COBB Tuning Products over Clean Air Act Violations. It involves emissions defeat devices U.S. officials say were manufactured and sold by the company.

I have warned listeners about “defeat devices” like these for a number of years.  My biggest concern is many of them will allow an engine to perform outside the limits of what the automaker deems as safe.

Kim Komando's Useful Tips & Info of the Week

Besides the Car Pro Show and our weekly newsletter, my other favorite radio show and newsletter is Kim Komando’s. We are on many of the same radio stations across America. She does for her listeners and newsletter subscribers exactly what I endeavor to do: Give you useful information to keep you up to date on the latest in cars, only she does it with technology and there is nobody who does it better. Not sure how she puts out a top-notch newsletter seven days a week, but she does.

Here are some various tips & information I picked up from Kim’s newsletter this week I hope you find as useful as I did:

graphics CarPro-4

  • Lifesaving tech: The 2025 Toyota Sienna minivan will call your phone if it thinks you left kids in the car. A 60 GHz radar scanner monitors the second and third rows. If the doors lock and it detects someone inside, the hazard lights will start flashing and the horn will sound. If you ignore it, you’ll get a text and a phone call.
  • Groceries are so expensive: Flipp compares prices so you don't have to. Type in what you're looking for and your address, city or ZIP code to find sales near you. At least eggs aren’t $8 a dozen anymore.
  • Keep AM radio in cars: The House Energy and Commerce Committee is voting today on the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act. Millions of folks use AM radio for news, sports, weather, traffic and music. During emergencies, local AM stations offer a lifeline to keep us safe, informed and connected. Use this form to tell your legislators why AM radio is so important. (From Car Pro-YES, please do!)
  • Who’s in your doc’s pocket? Worried your doctor might not be giving you impartial advice because they’re getting paid by Big Pharma? Look ‘em up in this government database (U.S. only) and see which companies are giving them money. That includes celebrity doctors, too, if you’re feeling nosy!
  • Read to me: Robert from Mooresville, North Carolina, called my show to ask how to make his time in the car more productive by listening to documents he’d otherwise need to read during his drive. Easy-peasy — your phone can read a PDF aloud if you set up texttospeech.
  • Update your iPhone: iOS 18 is live for every model newer than the iPhone X. No Apple Intelligence (aka Apple’s take on AI) until next month, but it’s still worth updating. Go to Settings > General > Software Update. Follow the on-screen steps, then you’re good to go.

True Stories From A Former Car Dealer

regrets-sign-true-stories-former-car-dealer-car-proA few years ago, I started writing a series of True Stories From A Former Car Dealer.  Over 40 weeks, I wrote about experiences I had from my days as a dealership owner.  Some will make you laugh, others will make you cry.  The reaction was beyond my wildest expectations.

For our new subscribers, and for those of you who may have missed one or perhaps simply forgot the details, we’ll bring these to you in the order they were written.

This week I share some of the most personal feelings of this entire series.  Regrets I had over the span of my entire life.  I talk candidly about my late Son, what he was like, and I share his obituary that was written by me.  Missed business opportunities, failures, and more as I wind down the True Story series.

You have to be a special kind of stupid to try to steal a new Corvette and can’t figure out how to get out of the car!  This really happened.  The thief got in the car and couldn’t get out.  When the owner showed up, he wanted him to let him out.  Guess who did?  The police did, and they adorned him with silver bracelets!  Too funny!
