2023 Jeep Compass Altitude Review

This week, we’re looking at the 2023 Jeep Compass Altitude for you.  The Altitude falls near the middle of the Compass lineup and as with all Compasses, it is 4-wheel drive and ready to take off the pavement.

Exterior

My Redline Pearl review vehicle looks awesome with a black roof, matching black 18” wheels and a rear spoiler.

 

Powertrain

New for 2023 under the hood, is a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine putting out 200-horses and 221-pound feet of torque.  It is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Interior

The surprise in this compact SUV was the niceness of the interior.  Soft touch materials abound, and it has stitching throughout.  The cloth seats are comfortable and roomy.

The gauge cluster is digital, colorful, configurable from the steering wheel, and it is very easy to see and read.

 

 

Center dash is a 10.1” screen that operates the U Connect 5 system, the sound system, Bluetooth, vehicle settings, the 360-degree camera, and the apps page.  This is where you hook-up to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.  You can also activate voice commands from there.

Under that are buttons for turning off start/stop, and you can turn on and off the Park Sense system that will parallel park the Compass, and you can turn on the lane management system.

Further down, you find the climate controls, a wireless phone charger, USB-A and USB-C ports, and the controls for the drive modes and you can lock in the 4-wheel drive system if you get into rough terrain.

 

Back seat room is pretty tight, head room is OK for people up to 6-feet tall or so. Back seat passengers get their own air conditioning vents, a USB-C port, and a power outlet.

Cargo area is good and there is some extra storage underneath where the inflator kit is.

Standard Features

The Compass Altitude is nicely equipped with remote start, power liftgate, power front heated seats, and power windows and power locks.

Safety

On the safety side, you get adaptive cruise control, park assist, active driving forward collision warning with active braking, and blind spot monitoring.

Ride and Drive

The Compass Altitude is a very capable off-road SUV, yet would be a wonderful daily driver for anyone.  If you want to go to the next level of off-roading, move up to the Trailhawk.

It is quiet inside, handling is fantastic, and it corners very well.  Acceleration is strong when the turbo kicks in and you’ll have no problems getting up on the freeway.

What You'll Pay

Fuel economy is rated at 24 city and 32 highway, which is good for a 4x4 SUV.  MSRP is $41,905 as you see this SUV. That price is in line with other capable SUVs that will confidently go off the pavement, and it will tow 2,000 pounds.
