2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV LT Review

Written By: Jerry Reynolds | Apr 15, 2025 5:10:31 PM

I’ve been wanting to test this truck for a while now, and it just never worked out.  Finally got it, and I have to tell you, I have enjoyed this truck immensely. GM really got this one right.

Exterior

I love the way it looks, somewhat reminiscent of the Chevy Avalanche from a decade ago.  It has huge 22” wheels (24’s are available!).

It is sleek, modern, and has terrific ground clearance. It has running boards, which most people will need, and from the front a thin line of LED lights all the way across the truck, over a solid grill.

One thing I love is it doesn’t scream LOOK AT ME-I’M ELECTRIC!  It just looks like a modern day Silverado in many ways.

Performance

Powering the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV with Extended Range is GM’s electric platform, they don’t call it Ultium anymore for some reason.  Dual electric motors (one front, one rear) for e-AWD (electric all-wheel drive) are powered by a large battery pack that enables up to 390-miles of estimated range on this LT trim level.  Total system output is 390-horsepower and 765 pound-feet of torque. The truck is extremely fast for an 8800-pound truck, especially from a dead stop. 0-to-60 time is just over 4-seconds, and it will tow 10,000 pounds, at least for a little while.

Interior

Open the driver’s door to reveal a really nice leather interior.  There are very comfortable captain’s chairs in front that are nicely-bolstered, heated, and cooled.  They are heavily stitched and look great with piping on the edge for some contrast. Both front seats are 12-way power adjusting, and the driver has memory settings.

The 11” gauge cluster right in front of the driver is colorful and easy to read, and you can configure it as you like from the steering wheel.  My favorite choice was two large dials, one on the left-one on the right that display your speed and the battery kW usage.  In the center is the time and outside temperature.  Also prominent is your range in miles, a critical element for anyone driving an electric vehicle.

Center dash, up high, is a massive 17.7-inch screen that is command central to operate just about everything. You operate the Google infotainment and navigation system, the Bose sound system, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi hotspot, the trailer towing page, vehicle settings, controls for things like the head-up display, and it houses the terrific HD surround vision cameras.  Strangely, and I can’t explain this, it is void of Apple CarPlay OR Android Auto, which is a bit of a head scratcher.  It does have SiriusXM.

The system is one of the fastest I’ve ever experienced. The voice recognition works very well.  There are other settings from the screen to turn on the regenerative braking which allows one-pedal driving, you can check range, and find a nearby charging station.  I utilized the one-pedal driving for my entire week, and just loved it. There is a paddle on the steering wheel to set the sensitivity, and as the vehicle slows down, it sends a charge to the batteries.  The center console is large and wide and holds two cup holders and a pair of USB-C ports.

As you head to the back seat, they are as comfortable as the front ones are, leg room is massive, as is the head room.  There is a fold-down armrest with cup holders, and back seat passengers have air vents, the rear seats are heated, there are two USB-C jacks, and a 12V power outlet.

Multi-Flex Tailgate

This is where you can activate the Multi-Flex Midgate, a really cool feature that people loved on the old Avalanche.  It dramatically increases cargo versatility by allowing the cabin to open into the truck bed.  The Multi-Flex Midgate allows you to fold down the rear seats and the wall between the cab and bed, extending the usable cargo length into the cabin. This flexible setup lets you carry items nearly 11 feet long while still offering split-seat options for passengers.  It increases functionality without increasing overall vehicle length.

To activate the Multi-Flex Midgate, fold down the rear seats, securing the seat belts into the designated slots in the door trim. Then, from outside the vehicle, press one of the release buttons at the bottom of the midgate to lower the larger (60%) side. If you wish to lower the smaller (40%) side as well, press the button a second time. This configuration allows you to extend the cargo floor into the cabin. It is quick and simple to operate and while you may not use it a lot, it is good to know it is available to you.  Here’s a great video on the midgate operation:

Let’s move to the very rear where you’ll find the fully powered Multi-Flex tailgate, which folds down to allow you to step into the bed much easier and the step will hold 375-pounds.

It will operate from the key fob, at the tailgate itself, or from a switch on the dash.  This tailgate is standard equipment on the Silverado EV.

Standard Features

Here are other notable standard features on the LT trim: Remote start, adaptive cruise control, automatic temperature-controlled air conditioning, LED lighting all around and inside the pickup bed, head-up display, heated outside power folding mirrors, air conditioned and heated front seats, heated rear seats, and the power eTrunk.

Safety

Silverado EV comes standard with a robust set of safety features, including Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning.

It also includes IntelliBeam automatic high beams, a Following Distance Indicator, Rear Park Assist, an HD Rear Vision Camera, Teen Driver technology, and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System with Tire Fill Alert.

Options

My review vehicle has three options, the first is the $9,800 LT Premium package, which is a great value in my opinion.  You get enhanced parking assist, trailer towing package, the 22” wheels, the Multi-Flex Midgate, tech package, spray-in bedliner, and Super Cruise, GM’s terrific semi-self-driving system.

Super Cruise

A little more on Super Cruise:  GM has driven and mapped out almost 750,000 miles of divided highways across America to bring you the Super Cruise system.  On an approved road, you’ll get a green light on the dash.  Set the cruise control, hit the Super Cruise, and the vehicle literally drives itself. If you want to change lanes, turn on your blinker and it will make sure there is enough room and will change lanes for you. The system can also be used when towing a trailer.

A small camera on the steering wheel monitors your eyes to make sure you are engaged, and if not, you get a verbal warning.  After that, the car will start to slow down, the flashers come on, and it will safely get you off the road and Onstar will call for help.  This is in case the driver is incapacitated. I’ve tested many of these systems, and still this one performs best in my opinion.

Charging

Let’s talk charging times.  At a DC fast charger, you can get to an 80% charge in just over 30 minutes, which is awesome, especially if you are traveling. I have a Level 2 charger at home, and it will pick up 30-miles of range per hour.

2025-Chevy Silverado LT-EV-charge-screen-carpro.jpg

Or you can plug it into a regular 110 outlet.  Just know that if you do, you’ll gain approximately 3.5-miles of range per hour.  That will take 90-hours to get to 80%, or 3 days and 18 hours.  Please, take my advice and get a home charger.

Ride and Drive

The acceleration of EVs always takes me by surprise, you’d think I’d be used to it by now.  For a heavy pickup, this one is strong.  Of course, the exhibition of acceleration will knock that battery range down quickly, but wow is it a rush as you get pinned to the seat.  The interior quietness is exceptional, and GM went to great lengths to make sure of that.  With this much range and the quick DC charging times, this is a truck I would not be afraid to take cross-country.

MSRP and MPGe

Fuel economy is rated at 70 MPGe in the city, 59 MPGe on the highway, and an overall combined rating of 64 MPGe.  MSRP as equipped is $83,090 before dealer discounts and factory incentives, and like all EVs, the discounts and incentives are plentiful.  The Silverado does qualify for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit as long as that is still around.  As I always suggest for first-time electric vehicle buyers, if you can lease, it is a good idea.  We don’t know where the EV market is headed, and leasing takes all the guess work out of it.

Verdict

For those who have turned up their nose at an electric pickup, take a second look at this one.  It’s capable, it’s enjoyable, and it is full of terrific technology.
