It's one of the most gorgeous, innovative and cleverly designed SUVs on the road today. I'm talking about none other than the Electrified Genesis GV70. An impressive mid-sized luxury SUV I've had the pleasure of reviewing before - which made me all the more excited to see it in my driveway once again, in its newest model year.
Exterior
Sleek, sporty and streamlined describe the 2024 Electrified Genesis GV70 AWD Prestige. It's just a gorgeous two-row SUV that gets its athletic looks not only from its design but from its low-profile wheelbase.
Genesis can do absolutely no wrong with its paint hues. I loved my 2023 review model's Makula Gray Matte hue (which sadly is no longer available). Fortunately I also love this model's gorgeous new-for-2024 Capri Blue color. It's wows as well set against striking 20-inch wheels.
The GV70's aerodynamic G-Matrix Crest Grille is flanked by the brand's signature Two-line headlamps. I love how designers cleverly hid the EV charging port in the grille.
All exterior lighting elements are LED. The dual-folding power side mirrors are also heated and have approach lights.
Performance
The Electrified GV70 with standard all-wheel drive is all about performance. Its high-efficiency, high-powered dual electric motors paired with a 77 kW battery deliver 429-horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Talk about quick off-the line acceleration. It instantly flies! And that's before you punch the BOOST button on the steering wheel for a thrilling 10 second 54-horsepower burst of that takes you to 483.
Smart Regenerative Braking
Genesis' Smart Regenerative Braking System is fantastic. From the multimedia system you choose from three levels: faster, normal an slower deceleration. You the use the i-Pedal to accelerate, decelerate or slowly come to a stop.
Range & Charging
With no range updates to share for 2024, its 236-mile EPA-estimated range remains on the low side for today's standards.
On the brighter side, charging is fast. Genesis cites a 10-80% charge time of 18 minutes using 800V DC Ultra Fast Charging. When I charged at a local mall Level 2 charger, the time listed was an 82%-100% charger in 1:45 hours at 9.5 kW. At home using a Level 1 it was much longer: 50%-100% in 37.10 hours at 1.5 kW Charging status shows up on the multimedia screen.
The Electrified GV70 also offers Vehicle-to-Load charging to power small appliances and electronics.
Interior
Sitting behind the wheel of Genesis is always a wonderful place to be. The luxury and craftsmanship impress each and every time - be it Genesis SUVs or the automaker's sedans.
My test vehicle features an exquisite two-tone Glacier White/Copper interior with Nappa quilted leather seats along with navy microfiber elements and aluminum trim. High quality switchgear abounds throughout the cabin. Contrast stitching along the dash and soft-touch door panels is impeccable. Sleek door handles exude sophistication.
The cabin is also designed with sustainability in mind. Eco-friendly materials include tricot yarn made from recycled plastic bottles and waste nets. Designers used the material along the headliner and pillar trim.
A 14-way power Ergo Motion driver's seat is beyond comfortable with cushiony side bolsters, a power cushion extender and a massage function. Four-way power lumbar heated and ventilated front seats are standard. A power button on the side of the passenger's seat moves it forward and back.
The high-end steering wheel looks and feels luxurious. One of the innovative features about the GV70 is its Fingerprint Reader next to the steering wheel. I've not tried this first-hand, but once you set it up you can start the vehicle with the tap of of your finger. Keep going to the right and you'll come to the haptic touch sensitive climate control panel that also has two dual-zone temp dials.
A minimalist floating center console houses a unique Shift-by-Wire dial that is imprinted with a G-Matrix pattern. Above it, you find the multimedia controller-slash- trackpad that recognizes swiping, handwriting and offers pinch and zoom capability. The console is also where you'll find your drive mode select and Auto Brake Hold.
The 60/40 split reclining rear seats will keep your passengers in supreme comfort. No worries either about headroom despite slight stadium seating. Back seat passengers get their own climate controls and the Prestige is equipped with heated rear seats along with manual sunshades. A drop-down armrest offers two cupholders but they seem to be on the smaller side.
There is plenty of cargo space as well as a nice cargo cover that hides your valuables. I also love how Genesis cleverly integrates a trunk power open button into the rear windshield wiper.
Standard features include a power liftgate, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, carpeted floor mats and a wireless charger.
Technology
The Prestige package upgrades to a phenomenal 12.3-inch 3D digital cluster. The colors and graphics are terrific and I love that it displays navigation instructions.
The lineup's standard 14.5-inch HD multimedia touchscreen display navigation is also superb with extremely high quality graphics. It's very responsive as well, though, admittedly it is a bit of a reach for me. The high-resolution backup camera and optional Surround View Monitor deliver great quality images.
The multimedia system, which is compatible with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, includes Dynamic Voice Recognition, along with other features like Sounds of Nature, Valet and Quiet Mode. The 15-speaker Lexicon Premium Audio system is absolutely incredible.
For 2024, the lineup gets a standard WiFi hotspot. Occupants can keep connected with 4 USB ports, 2 for the front and two for the back seat, but you are out of luck if you need a USB-C.
Ride and Drive
The sporty Electrified GV70 is an exceptional overall driving experience. Its electrified powertrain means super fast off the line acceleration. It's also as engaging to drive as it is to look at. Five drive modes - including Sport+ -vary throttle responsiveness, steering weight and suspension firmness. It handles great as well thanks to all-wheel drive and its equal weight distribution. An electronically controlled suspension that uses a camera to read the road ahead gives you a smooth ride, and it's a quiet one too thanks to available Active Noise Cancellation.
Safety
Genesis excels as well with its driver assistance tech. The GV70 is equipped with all the standard Advanced Driver Assistance Systems you expect these days, and more. The GV70 offers Blind-Spot View Monitor, Safe Exit Assist, Driver Attention Warning, and Advanced Rear Occupant Alert.
Two of my favorite features are Highway Driving Assist II, which is an incredible semi-autonomous driving system, and Remote Smart Parking Assist which allows you to park your car remotely from the key fob. The system is intuitive and very easy to use.
The available 12-inch color head-up display that projects data on the windshield is also fabulous with terrific graphics.
Options
Options on my test vehicle include the Capri Blue paint ($575) and the Prestige Package ($6,800) which includes Nappa leather seating surfaces, leatherette-wrapped upper instrument panel, microfiber suede headliner, 12.3-inch gauge cluster, 12-inch head-up display, Lexicon Premium Audio, Active Noise Control-road, heated 2nd row seats, heated steering wheel, manual rear door shades and white brake calipers.
What You'll Pay
Total MSRP as tested is $75,020, including destination. While it is assembled in the U.S., it is NOT currently on the FuelEconomy.gov website as a vehicle that currently qualifies for a Clean Vehicle Tax Credit.
Verdict
The Genesis Electrified GV70 is an outstanding and well-designed SUV that elevates the entire driving experience. This is a vehicle you look forward to driving. It's exceptional performance, luxury and technology make it an SUV that's truly a joy to drive.
